Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 — White Lotus Matches Green Tea

In the owners' group, Aunt Lin kept chattering."Did everyone see the news? Our country is handling the snow disaster!""Don't be nervous. Everything will be fine.""If anyone needs help, those who can should help. The storm will pass — no need to hoard."

Few replies came. Two days in, the storm showed no sign of stopping. Worry had settled like frost.

Fang Yuqing messaged Zhang Yi. "Zhang Yi, are you okay?"He raised an eyebrow. She probably thought Chen Zhenghao had taught him a lesson. He didn't buy her kindness. "I'm fine," he replied."Oh, that's good." Her voice had a small, disappointed edge beneath it.

Then she hit him with the real ask. "We're out of food. I remember you bought a lot. Can you send some? I'll treat you later~ (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧"

Lin Caining poked her head out from under blankets. It was so cold they shared a bed. Greed lit her eyes when she saw the food. These two never cooked; they lived on takeout and handouts. Days of snow had them surviving on instant noodles and canned goods. Seeing Zhang eat lobster and steak alone made them furious and envious.

"Wow, Zhang Yi's got all that and didn't even think of you!" Lin hissed. "He's such a fake—always saying he likes you but acting like that."

Fang tried to maintain dignity. "Hmph. A little food and you want me to be your girlfriend? Ridiculous." Pride, always. But desire showed in the corner of her eyes.

Lin leaned in, scheming: "Tell him you'll have dinner with him — but he brings the food. You save face, and you eat lobster and steak. He'll jump at that."

Fang considered. Zhang was a backup — handsome, a little money, not her ideal king. She wouldn't usually stoop. But instant noodles for days had frayed patience. "Fine. Give him a chance to have dinner with me," she muttered and tapped a message.

"Zhang Yi, it's been a while. Come over for dinner tonight?" she sent.

Zhang laughed. "You're treating me? Thanks!" The line turned Fang's face pale — whether from cold or fury was anyone's guess.

She flung the phone aside, outraged. "Ungrateful! I gave him a chance and he wants me to pay!" Lin gaped. Simps don't usually wake up. Fang huffed: "I'm lowering him on the list. Never speak to him again. Even if he begs—no."

Lin, ever greedy, piled on. "Look at his character! Chasing you and stingy—he deserves to stay single." They roasted him for a while.

Fang lifted her phone, hoping for an apology. Nothing. Darker mood. Lin, meanwhile, slid a private message to Zhang: "You idiot! Yuqing's mad — do you know how serious this is?"

Reading chat had become Zhang's entertainment. Human nature in collapse was a very good show. He glanced at Lin's PM, smirked, and typed back a thoughtless amusement. "One plays good cop, the other bad cop. Drama queens."

He'd seen through the duo long ago. Lin played the pushy friend so Fang could remain goddess-perfect. Lin hinted, begged, took the gifts; Fang kept the mystique.

Zhang put the phone down and went back to watching the building breathe under grey sky. The white-lotus and the green-tea were doing their usual choreography — same lines, same moves — only the stakes had finally become real.
