Chapter 106 - KRYPT-Ch.106: It Is My Duty

Matthew Atkinson

London, United Kingdom

"This is the London City Royal Guard. We are now broadcasting an emergency evacuation notice to all units and areas. Citizens are requested to go to the nearest shelter immediately. Repeat, citizens of all areas are requested to go to the nearest shelter immediately..."

A loud broadcast sound lingered in the sky above London City for a long time.

Along with it came the piercing sound of air raid sirens.

Upon hearing the evacuation notice over the loudspeaker, the already frightened citizens became even more panicked.

"What happened? What's wrong?"

"There must be a spacetime rift appearing nearby."

"Hurry! Get to the shelter!"

"Oh? My child is still at home! I need to go pick him up!!!"

"Honey, what should we do?!"

"The road is blocked. Abandon the vehicle immediately, don't take anything, and get to the shelter first..."

The timid ones screamed in terror, while the calmer ones immediately led their families to the shelter.

Car horns, shouts, cries, curses... it was all a chaotic mess.

Everyone was scrambling to escape.

Soon, the streets descended into chaos.

...

Royal Guild London branch building.

Grand Magister Russell has just sent a conscription message to all the superhumans in London City on behalf of the Royal Guild.

The message was also received on Matthew's new phone, registered under his new identity, Clark Kent.

The information already explained the level of the disaster and the response plan.

Official support would arrive in half an hour. All they needed to do was cooperate with the military and hold out for half an hour.

London was a large city, and there were many reserve units nearby. Therefore, reinforcements could arrive in half an hour.

If they had been in a more remote city, reinforcements could have taken hours to arrive.

The main problem was that the space rift was very close to the city, and even a half-hour delay could have led to significant losses.

Of course, whether or not to answer the call was entirely up to supernatural individuals.

In situations like this, most supernatural individuals would respond to the call.

After all, if monsters break through the defenses and invade the city, those inside would also suffer.

And as long as someone could assist the defense and help the city overcome the crisis, everyone would receive a significant reward in the subsequent merit-based rewards.

If people were too afraid to come because they fear death, they might not face repercussions once the crisis is over, but they would definitely be expelled from the guild.

If they were expelled from the guild, their reputation would be ruined, and they would face boycotts by their peers.

From now on, they wouldn't be able to find good teammates when they were going into the Supernatural Realm.

At the moment, many of the supernaturals in the guild building had already taken up arms and were ready for battle.

Including Grand Magister Russell.

As a Magister of the Royal Guild, he usually enjoyed huge benefits, so he would definitely be the first to step up in the face of such a crisis.

Grand Magister Russell was not someone who was afraid of death.

At this moment, he was filled with fighting spirit, his eyes brimming with eagerness.

Because he harbored a deep and unforgettable hatred for monsters.

His wife died in a disaster brought by these monsters.

"Clark, in principle, you've just joined the guild, so we shouldn't be issuing a conscription notice to you."

Grand Magister Russell approached Matthew and said earnestly, "However, the situation is critical right now. London City needs high-end combat support, so on behalf of the guild, I hope you can lend a hand. We need to hold on for half an hour, and we'll get reinforcements."

Matthew immediately stood up and solemnly said, "Grand Magister Russell, when faced with this kind of situation, regardless of whether I am a member of the guild or not, I have a duty to help."

Of course, it was his duty.

This was his hometown.

His parents and family all lived here.

Upon hearing this, Grand Magister Russell looked at Matthew with admiration in his eyes.

"Alright, let's not delay. I'll skip the formalities. What weapons do you need, Clark? You can get them from the storeroom."

"No need," Matthew said. "My fists are my weapons."

It wasn't that he was arrogant.

Instead, he hadn't learned how to use weapons.

In addition, his current skills require his fists to perform.

If he were actually to pick up a weapon, he wouldn't know how to use it, and his fists would be more effective.

Moreover, he was a Kryptonian. To use any weapon other than his fists would be an insult to Superman's legacy.

Upon hearing Matthew's words, Grand Magister Russell immediately said, "Then let's set off now."

And Grand Magister Russell led Matthew to the courtyard behind the guild building.

There was a transport plane here that the guild used.

It could accommodate up to one hundred people.

At this time, the transport plane was already full of supernaturals.

These supernatural individuals ranged in age from young to old, including two elderly people in their sixties and seventies.

Everyone's eyes were filled with fighting spirit.

Seeing this scene, Matthew suddenly felt a strange, indescribable feeling.

People in this world have chivalrous hearts.

Unlike on Earth, where everyone was indifferent and didn't care if it didn't concern them.

Of course, Matthew also knew that this was not because people's hearts had turned bad.

It was because some incompetent people who cared only about making money and did nothing had allowed evil practices to grow unchecked and eventually evolve into a society without human compassion.

In short, Matthew preferred this world more now.

"Grand Magister."

"Grand Magister."

Everyone greeted Grand Magister Russell.

Grand Magister Russell also nodded frequently to the crowd.

Once he and Matthew boarded the transport plane, he immediately gave the order.

"Set off."

The transport plane took off from its spot and then flew towards the spacetime rift.

This was Matthew's first time riding in a transport plane.

He had only one feeling: it was incredibly fast.

In less than two minutes, it flew out of the city.

From afar, Matthew could already see a huge crack stretching for two kilometers in the sky, from which countless enormous monsters emerged and rushed straight towards London City.

These monsters were extremely ferocious, each with a terrifying and grotesque appearance. Any one of them appearing in the city would cause a disaster.

Now, tens of thousands of monsters were charging in, creating an extremely powerful force.

Inside the cabin, all the superhumans who witnessed this scene wore solemn expressions.

If these monsters were allowed to rush into London City, they could destroy the entire city in less than twenty minutes.

But it wouldn't be easy to stop these monsters.

Everyone knew that a tough battle was brewing today.

Soon, the transport plane began its descent.

An army had already set up a defensive line here.

This army was usually stationed near the city to deal with emergencies, so it was not large in number, about 3,000 people.

It was definitely not feasible to rely on these three thousand soldiers to stop so many monsters.

Besides military personnel, there were many vehicles parked nearby and small transport planes.

Not far away, even more vehicles were driving in this direction from the city center.

Those who could arrive to provide support at this time were, of course, superhumans.

After Grand Magister Russell stepped out of the transport plane.

Three middle-aged men then stepped forward.

One of the middle-aged men, dressed in a military uniform, was likely an army commander.

As for the other two, they must be fifth-tier experts from London City.

The three of them were already familiar with Grand Magister Russell, and given the urgency of the situation, they didn't exchange any pleasantries upon meeting.

"Old Russell, hurry up, we're just waiting for you."

The muscular middle-aged man on the far left beckoned Grand Magister Russell to walk towards the defensive line.

Grand Magister Russell pulled Matthew along, saying, "Clark, you come too."

Matthew naturally didn't object and followed them over.

The group arrived at a table. A very simple sand table was placed on the table.

The muscular man immediately spoke up and asked, "Old Russell, you're the Grand Magister, so tell us, how are we going to fight this battle today?"

Grand Magister Russell immediately looked at the military commander. "When it comes to fighting, of course, we should listen to Regiment Commander Jones."

Commander Jones then said, "Then let's use the conventional tactics. Once the monsters enter the warning line, we'll launch long-range fire to disrupt their charging formation. The superhumans will follow up, and our men will continue to provide fire support to eliminate the monsters. If any powerful monsters appear, then a few of us will hold them off."

This Commander Jones was also a fifth-tier expert.

Upon hearing Commander Jones's words, the people present all nodded in agreement.

"Grand Magister Russell, is this young man your junior?"

The muscular man noticed Matthew and asked him a question.

Upon hearing this, Grand Magister Russell immediately introduced him to everyone.

"His name is Clark Kent. He is a powerful newcomer who joined the guild today. Don't underestimate young Clark. His destructive power has already reached the fifth-tier standard."

Upon hearing this, several fifth-tier experts looked at Matthew in surprise.

To reach the fifth rank at such a young age was definitely a huge achievement among supernatural individuals.

His future was bright.

Then, everyone's gaze turned to surprise.

They did not doubt what Grand Magister Russell said, and Grand Magister Russell would not joke like this at this time.

Moreover, having another fifth-level expert's help would definitely increase their chances of winning.

"Clark looks to be only in his early twenties. He's truly a promising young man." Commander Jones immediately praised.

The words had barely left his mouth, and suddenly, a terrifying roar came from afar.

Everyone's expression changed.

Commander Jones and the others picked up their binoculars and looked in the direction of the monsters.

Through the binoculars, they spotted a gigantic creature charging toward them.

"This is troublesome." Commander Jones's face was grim. "Judging from its aura, it's at least a fifth-tier monster."

Although both were at the fifth rank, humans and monsters were vastly different.

A fifth-tier monster could easily overwhelm a fifth-tier human expert in a one-on-one fight. To suppress it, it would take at least seven or eight fifth-tier human experts.

And a troublesome fifth-tier monster, probably could kill a sixth-tier human expert in a one-on-one fight.

Grand Magister Russell and the others also looked grim.

"No matter what, we can't back down. We have to hold on for another half hour."

The other three nodded silently.

...

The monsters seemed to know that there were people here.

They followed the scent of humans and rushed towards this side.

No one knows why they hate humans so much.

A moment later, even ordinary people could clearly see the monster army surging forth like a tide.

Commander Jones immediately ordered, "Fire."

Instantly, all kinds of canons opened fire.

In an instant, explosions rang out continuously.

In the distance, amidst the horde of monsters, bursts of explosions and sparks appeared.

The power of modern firearms was on full display at this moment.

Commander Jones did not order the soldiers to aim at the fifth-tier monster.

Because he knew very well that, unless it was a nuclear bomb, conventional artillery fire was useless against fifth-tier monsters.

And that was indeed the case.

Some of the shells landed on the huge fifth-tier monster but had no effect whatsoever. They didn't even puncture its skin.

Seeing this, Matthew felt he didn't even need to use Armament Haki with his current defense. His steel body alone was enough to make him immune to these artillery attacks.

It wasn't that the artillery fire was weak, but rather that his body was too strong.
