Selene's POV
The first thing I felt was cold. Not the kind that brushed the skin or crept beneath a cloak, this was deeper, seeping into my bones, freezing the pulse of my magic until even my breath felt like ice.
When I opened my eyes, I was no longer in the apothecary. The world around me was made of fractured light, broken reflections of stars hanging in an endless sea of mist. The ground was not solid but liquid silver, rippling beneath my feet though it bore my weight. Above, the sky swirled in endless motion, colors shifting between gold, amethyst and the palest blue. I stood in the Astral Crossroads, though I had never seen it before. But somehow, I knew.
My heart stuttered in my chest.
"Lucian?" My voice echoed, softer than a whisper.
No answer.
