The Feather split open and from within, something began to emerge out from it.
Lucian gripped my arm, eyes wide. "Selene… what have we unleashed?"
The air turned to ice.
Lucian's hand clutched me tightly to himself, grounding me against the rush of power that rippled through the room. The Bloodstone Feather hovered inches above the floor, its light blackening, twisting, bleeding into smoke that hissed like something alive, something more ancient than ever.
Eldric stumbled backward, his eyes wide. "No. No, it cannot be, this can't be."
The Feather cracked again, a jagged sound that tore through the apothecary's silence. From within, something moved, not crawling, not walking, but unfolding, emerging. Its shape shifted between shadow and form, its edges undefined, like a spiraling smoke, struggling to remember how to be flesh.
