Chapter 256 - Chapter 256 The Lioness and the Dragon

"Your Majesty, please forgive me!" Grand Maester Pycelle's pleading voice came from under the long table.

His actions actually dispelled most of Queen Mother Cersei's anger. She lowered her eyes to look at Tyrion, who was blocking her way, and said, "My Prime Minister brother, have you thought it through?"

Tyrion heard the threat in Cersei's words. He shrugged and said, "My Queen Mother sister, the war might end very soon."

Queen Mother Cersei's lips curved into a sneer. She said, "I hope you survive."

Tyrion grinned and said, "May pray bless us."

With a cold snort, Queen Mother Cersei turned and strode away, leaving the Throne Room surrounded by the Kingsguard.

...

In the training ground, King Joffrey's voice rang out: "My dogs, if they dare to move again, break their legs."

As his words fell, cries for mercy immediately rose and fell.

Joffrey showed a look of contempt almost identical to Cersei's, saying, "You're too noisy. If you can't be quiet, I'll hang you directly."

Cersei happened to witness this scene. She showed a satisfied expression at Joffrey's assertiveness and majesty; her son was a born king.

"Joffrey," Queen Mother Cersei called out.

"Mother? My dogs, I'll leave this to you."

"You'll be satisfied."

Joffrey came before Cersei. He curved his lips and said, "Good day, beautiful Ms. Cersei."

Cersei couldn't help but smile. She stroked Joffrey's cheek dotingly and said, "Good day, brave Mr. King."

Joffrey invited, "Mother, do you want to see the bronze armor? I plan to personally expose the foolish legend."

"Walk with me…"

Queen Mother Cersei linked arms with her eldest son and said, "It seems you really like Earl Kleber's gift."

A slightly impatient Joffrey raised his chin, gripped the hilt of his sword, and said, "This is just a small lesson for Duke of Eyrie. Once Kleber brings Robert Arryn, I will grant him the opportunity to fight me fairly."

"That will be a grand event watched by the Seven Kingdoms. I am proud of you."

As they walked, Queen Mother Cersei added, "My son, Stannis is about to lay siege to the city. I am very uneasy. I hope…"

Before she could finish, Joffrey interrupted directly, "Mother, you can rest assured in Maegors Holdfast. I will protect you. No one can harm you."

Queen Mother Cersei said softly, "Joffrey, your mother is not afraid. What I worry about most is your safety. Compared to Dwarf, I trust Earl Kleber more. If he were by your side, I would feel much more at ease…"

"I'm not a child! I don't need anyone's protection!" Joffrey's voice, tinged with anger, interrupted his mother's words.

Joffrey declared, "All traitors who dare to claim to be king, I will kill them with my own hands!"

He looked at his mother and continued, "Before you came, I had already given Kleber the King's command. I want to see Duke of Eyrie as soon as possible, preferably tomorrow. Mother, I want the Seven Kingdoms to know the consequences of angering their King!"

Queen Mother Cersei frowned slightly and said, "Joffrey, Stannis is a difficult opponent…"

Joffrey paused, and he interrupted his mother's words once again: "My father personally killed Prince Rhaegar at the Ruby Ford. I will also resolve Stannis myself, just like my father!"

He continued impatiently, "Mother, I will protect you. You can rest assured and await the news of my victory over Stannis."

The mother and son looked at each other for a while. Cersei reached out and gently straightened Joffrey's clothes, saying, "A king is fearless. You are my pride."

Then, she gently patted Joffrey's arm and said softly, "Go, my Joffrey."

Only then did Joffrey show a childlike happy smile: "If I find anything interesting, I will send someone to tell Mother."

Queen Mother Cersei smiled and nodded slightly, then watched her son stride away.

Seeing Joffrey walk away, Ser Lancel stepped closer to Queen Mother Cersei. After a pause, he said in a deep voice, "Queen Mother Cersei, I will charge on the battlefield and defeat Stannis for you."

Queen Mother Cersei withdrew her gaze from Joffrey's retreating figure, nodded slightly, and said, "Go back."

Lancel read perfunctoriness from Cersei. His handsome face immediately flushed. His voice was like a vow: "Cersei, the sword in my hand will win you glory throughout the Seven Kingdoms."

Queen Mother Cersei turned her head and looked at Lancel, saying, "I look forward to that day."

In Lancel's eyes, Cersei's pair of sapphire eyes were clear as water, utterly captivating, and he was also exceptionally excited by her anticipation.

"Please believe me, what Kleber can do for you, I can also do for you, and I will do it better than him."

Cersei skillfully concealed the irritation in her eyes… Ever since Jaime and Kleber left her side, she could feel her power rapidly slipping away. The feeling was even stronger today, which suddenly filled her heart with an inexplicable panic.

Would she become a pretty vase?

Queen Mother Cersei gently raised her chin… The Lannister Lioness would never surrender!

Queen Mother Cersei gave Lancel a gentle smile… A woman also has a sword between her legs, and if she uses it well, men will naturally wield a sword for her, and for free.

...

Queen Mother Cersei stood on tiptoes and lightly kissed Lancel's cheek, saying, "Lancel, how should I reward your loyalty and bravery?"

Her slender fingers lightly brushed against Lancel's body, and Lancel nervously glanced around, his voice trembling as he said, "Queen Mother Cersei, we will be discovered."

Seeing this, a look of contempt flashed across Cersei's face. Her low voice carried a hint of sadness as she said, "Now, who else would care about me…"

Lancel clenched his fists tightly. He said excitedly, "You… and me…"

"Yes, and you."

After speaking, Queen Mother Cersei turned and took a few steps. Seemingly noticing that Lancel was still standing in place, she tilted her head slightly, a faint smile on her lips, and said, "Ser, please escort me to my chambers. Your Queen Mother needs rest, and she needs a knight's protection by her side."

...

Hmm…

As the knight galloped and fought on another battlefield, Queen Mother Cersei couldn't help but let out a soft murmur.

Amidst the undulations, she was savoring the sudden and indescribable immense joy she felt earlier in the day when she read the letter.

At this moment… it could only be described as similar… but far from comparable.

Queen Mother Cersei thought of her favorite summer red. She smelled the sweet aroma of the wine and sometimes even held the wine in her mouth, but she could never "taste" the pleasure of the wine sliding down her throat.
