Chapter 21 - 21. Blood on the Tower.

Lizard POV – Streets of New York

The city screamed.

Scales rippled against what was left of a lab coat as Curt Connors — no, the Lizard — thundered down Fifth Avenue. His claws gouged the asphalt, his tail slammed taxis into lampposts.

Every roar came with mists of green vapor pouring away from pressurised canisters.

People staggered, coughing, clutching throats. Then their screams bent into snarls as scales erupted across their skin. Dozens twisted, warped and reformed — his twisted vision of evolution, birthed in pain.

His twisted mind didn't hear their cries anymore. Only destiny.

His gaze locked on Oscorp Tower, gleaming like a promise in the storm-lit night. The vault held the GANALI dispersal unit. With it, the whole city would change. The whole species.

A few jumpd and he was on the base of the tower. His claw dug into the skyscraper's concrete. He began to climb.

Gwen POV:

Dispatch chatter echoed from police radios all around.

> "Oscorp Tower is under assault. Subject confirmed: The Lizard."

I didn't hesitate. My bike skidded into an alley, helmet stripped, jacket tossed. The suit beneath hugged like a second skin. In a cracked window's reflection, Gwen Stacy disappeared. Spider-Woman stared back.

"Please don't die on me, Dad." I whispered.

A webline shot skyward. I swung into the night, toward the monster climbing my city's crown.

Peter POV – Oscorp Sub-Lab

The building shook overhead. Connors was already scaling the tower.

I forced focus, eyes locked on the centrifuge humming before me. The sample pulsed like a heartbeat. I broke in the lab during the initial panic and I used my AI interface chip to disable all surveillance and security.

> Antidote v2.0 – Stability: 99.7%

It was ready. The cure Connors no, everyone in this city needed. The only thing standing between New York and one permanent lizard themed nightmare.

I sealed it into an injector capsule, adrenaline surging in my veins. But even as I gripped it, my gaze slid to the second vial in the centrifuge slot glowing red, almost alive.

> Regen Serum v1.0 –Temporary Hyper regeneration.

One for the city. One for the inevitability.

And the sick certainty I'd need them both tonight.

Captain Stacey POV – Oscorp Roof

The roof door groaned as I shoved it open, service revolver steady in my hands.

The Lizard was in the highest point of the lightning pole, strapping on some device.

" Lizard!" My voice cut through the wind. "Step away now!"

The creature's head tilted. His tongue flicked, tasting the air. "George Stacey," he hissed. "Protector of insects."

One jump and he was on me.

The impact ripped the air from my lungs. Agony bloomed as claws punched through my chest. Blood soaked my uniform. My knees faltered, but I kept my gun raised, teeth bared.

"You'll… never have this city."

Connors grinned with too many teeth and raised his claws for the killing strike.

Gwen POV – Rooftop Arrival

The moment I arrived at the tower dad was already impaled on the Lizard's claw.

"Dad!"

I hit Connors like a bullet, webs yanking at his shoulders, legs braced against the railing. The monster roared, spinning, tail slamming but rage drowned out my fear.

Peter burst from the stairwell shoving the capsule into my hand. His voice cracked like glass: "The antidote — swap it into the GANALI, now! I'll take care of Connors."

Dad was bleeding out behind me. His eyes, glazed with pain, found mine. "Go… do it."

I wanted to stay. To hold his hand. To never let go. But if I hesitated, thousands more would die. Peter was clashing with Connors and the sound of bones cracking and snapping back in place filled the roof. Connors tried to go after me but Peter was like a literal undying wall of machine and man blocking his every attempt.

With a sob, I sprinted for the GANALI device strapped at the highest point. The night air whizzed past me and I jammed the antidote capsule into the core and slammed the release.

The device fired.

A white mist burst over the skyline. The army of reptilian screams below cracked, wavered, broke and then melted back into human voices. Connors shrieked as scales peeled and shrunk, his monstrous bulk collapsing toward man and in his eyes was the horror of realisation on what he has done.

New York was saved. But my dad.....

Peter POV:

I dropped to my knees beside Captain Stacey. Blood poured between my fingers as I pressed down, desperate. His breath was shallow, each gasp weaker than the last.

"Stay with me." I muttered, voice shaking. "Don't you dare check out on Gwen. Not like this."

His lips moved faintly. "Tell… her…"

"No." I snapped. My hands shook as I pulled the glowing vial from my pocket. "You'll tell her yourself."

The Regen serum hissed as I injected it into his bloodstream. For a heartbeat, nothing happened. For a brief moment my chest caved with terror.

Then the glow spread through his veins, knitting torn flesh, forcing tissue to mend. His breaths came deeper. Stronger. Color surged back into his face.

Gwen collapsed beside me, mask off, eyes wild with tears. "Pete—?"

"He's not dying today." I whispered.

Captain Stacey gasped, clutching my wrist with a strength that shouldn't have been possible seconds ago. His eyes snapped open and found his daughter, unmasked, tear-streaked, alive.

"Gwen…" His voice broke. "It was you."

She nodded, sobbing. "I'm sorry, Dad. I should've told you—"

His arms wrapped weakly but firmly around her shoulders. "Don't apologize. Just… be careful."

I leaned back, heart pounding so hard I could barely hear. Relief washed over me like a tide. For the first time that night, the rooftop didn't feel like a grave.

It felt like a second chance.

Peter POV:

Connors, conscious and human again, lay there. The city's skyline flickered with emergency lights, sirens screaming into the night.

But none of it mattered as much as the sight before me: Gwen holding her father's hand, both of them alive.

The antidote had worked. The Regen serum had worked.

But the price was carved into my bones — because this fight was far from over.

And deep down, I knew. The night the city learned I was real and eyes had started watching me.
