Chapter 467 - Intimacy And Trust

Night fell over Vailor with a calm that didn't match what we knew. After an entire day of planning and training, the silence of the mansion felt deeper than usual. It wasn't empty. It was contained expectation.

I remained in the main room for a few minutes after they all went upstairs. I observed the scattered maps, the organized notes, the strategies marked with precision. Every line drawn there represented a possibility of survival.

I put out the lanterns and went up.

In the second-floor corridor, the soft light escaping from one of the rooms showed that not all of them were asleep. I knocked lightly on the open door.

Elara was sitting near the window, holding a scroll she didn't seem to actually be reading.

"Couldn't rest," I said.

She looked up, calm.

"I did. I just didn't want to yet."

I stepped in.

The room was organized as always. Nothing out of place. Even so, there was something different in the air. Maybe because we were no longer just a group brought together by necessity. We were people who chose to remain side by side.

I sat in the opposite chair.

"Are you worried about the stone?"

"No."

The answer came immediately.

"I'm thinking about you."

I stayed silent.

She continued.

"Since we came back, you haven't shown doubt. That's good. But it also means you're carrying everything alone."

I took a deep breath.

"Not alone."

She stood and walked toward me.

"You know what I mean."

I did.

As a leader, I needed to convey stability. But stability isn't the absence of weight.

The door opened carefully.

Vespera entered first, followed by Rai'kanna. Soon after, Liriel and Lyannis.

None of them seemed surprised to find the others there.

Vespera crossed her arms, but her gaze was softer than usual.

"We decided tonight isn't a night for isolation."

Rai'kanna nodded.

"If the confrontation is approaching, we strengthen everything. Including what doesn't appear on the maps."

Lyannis closed the door behind her.

Liriel approached in silence, bringing that serenity that always balanced the atmosphere.

I stood up.

I looked at each of them.

There was no hesitation.

No embarrassment.

There was trust.

Elara held my hand.

"You carry responsibility. We carry you."

The sentence was simple.

But direct.

I sat down again, and they settled close, forming a natural circle in the room. It wasn't formal. It wasn't rehearsed.

It was necessary.

We talked without hurry.

About the Kingdom of the Cyclopes.

About the king.

About the looks from the population when we returned.

About the weight of the word immortal.

Rai'kanna spoke first about fear.

"Not of combat. But of making a mistake."

I agreed.

"A strategic mistake costs more than strength."

Vespera moved a little closer.

"Then we won't fight with strength alone."

Lyannis leaned her head lightly against the bed's backrest.

"The ancient records show that great ruptures don't happen by impulse. They happen through alignment."

Liriel looked at me.

"And alignment starts here."

She lightly touched my chest.

It wasn't an exaggerated romantic gesture.

It was firm.

I understood.

Trust isn't built only in battle.

It's built in the certainty that no one there will be abandoned.

Elara moved closer.

"You promised to protect all of us."

"Yes."

"Then accept that we want to protect you too."

The silence that followed wasn't heavy.

It was sincere.

I felt the warmth of their presence around me. It wasn't about immediate desire. It was about real closeness. About knowing that if everything collapsed, we would still be together.

Rai'kanna placed her hand on my shoulder.

"If the stone fails, we'll fight anyway."

"If it works, we advance."

Vespera completed.

Lyannis took a deep breath.

"If there's a rupture in the immortality, we need to be ready to act at the exact moment."

Liriel closed her eyes for a moment.

"And if there is extreme risk, my light will be a shield."

I looked at each of them.

None were there out of obligation.

All chose to stay.

I touched the hilt of the sword resting beside the bed.

Still silence.

But now the silence didn't bother me.

Because I didn't depend only on it.

The conversation faded naturally. The atmosphere became more intimate. Elara rested her forehead against mine for a moment. Vespera held my hand with quiet firmness. Rai'kanna moved closer without hesitation. Liriel maintained light but constant contact. Lyannis, despite her more reserved posture, didn't pull away.

There was no need for elaborate words.

There was closeness.

There was choice.

There was a silent promise.

When the fatigue of the day finally began to weigh in, we remained there for a few more minutes, just feeling each other's presence.

I understood something important that night.

Strength isn't just the ability to fight.

It's knowing you don't fight alone.

Before turning off the last light, I spoke softly.

"I won't retreat."

Elara answered immediately.

"Neither will we."

And in that quiet room of the mansion, far from the walls and the battlefields, the trust that sustained our group became more solid than any artifact.

I closed my eyes.

The war was approaching.

But that night, the foundation that truly mattered was intact.

And that gave me more security than any additional power could offer.
