Chapter 596 - Rise

The silence after the retreat was worse than the fight.

The battlefield was left behind, but the feeling didn't go away. The pressure still seemed stuck to the body, as if it had left an invisible mark. Every step back to the camp carried the weight of what had happened.

No one spoke on the way.

Rai'kanna walked ahead, quieter than usual. Lyannis wasn't smiling. Liriel kept her eyes down, clearly analyzing every detail of the fight. Elara seemed distant, as if reorganizing everything in her mind. Vespera walked steadily, but in silence. Scarlett stayed by my side the entire time.

When we finally reached the camp, some adventurers approached, waiting for answers.

No one got any.

"Later," Vespera said firmly.

They understood.

Or at least accepted it.

I entered the main tent and paused for a moment. My body felt heavy. Not just from the blows. It went deeper than that. It was the impact of realizing the limit.

Scarlett closed the entrance behind us.

"You need to rest," she said.

I shook my head. "Later."

Rai'kanna entered right after. "Resting won't fix it."

Lyannis leaned against the wall. "But collapsing won't help either."

Liriel crossed her arms. "The issue isn't rest. It's understanding what happened."

Elara nodded. "He didn't win through brute force."

Vespera added, "He won through control."

I sat down slowly, resting my arms on my knees. My breathing was still uneven, but stabilizing.

"He doesn't fight by reacting," I said. "He already knows what's going to happen."

Scarlett stayed beside me. "Total anticipation."

"Yes."

Rai'kanna frowned. "So how do you beat someone like that?"

"You don't beat him the same way," Lyannis replied.

"Then change the way," said Liriel.

Elara looked at me. "You've already noticed something."

I lifted my gaze.

I had.

But it wasn't simple.

"He controls the rhythm… because we give him the rhythm," I said.

Vespera understood immediately. "You mean we follow patterns."

"Even when we try not to," Liriel added.

Scarlett grew thoughtful. "So it's not about speed… or strength."

"It's about breaking his reading," said Elara.

Rai'kanna gave a slight smile. "Finally something interesting."

But it wasn't enough.

"That only creates openings," I said. "It doesn't guarantee victory."

Silence returned for a moment.

Because everyone knew.

That was only part of the answer.

I ran a hand over my face, trying to organize my thoughts.

The image of the fight came back clearly. Every movement. Every mistake. Every attempt.

And every failure.

"He's not just reading…," I said.

Everyone looked.

"He's limiting us."

Vespera nodded. "The field."

"Yes."

Liriel added, "That pressure… it's not just presence."

Elara deepened it. "It's active control."

Scarlett clenched her hand slightly. "So even if we improve… we'll still be trapped."

"Exactly."

Rai'kanna crossed her arms. "Then break the field."

Simple.

Direct.

But not wrong.

I looked at her.

"That's one of the options."

Lyannis smiled slightly. "I like that one."

"But it's not easy," said Liriel.

"Nor fast," added Elara.

Vespera looked at me. "You've already decided something."

I took a deep breath.

Yes.

"We're not going to beat him the way we are now."

No one argued.

Because they had seen it.

"So what do we do?" Scarlett asked.

I stood up.

My body still responded with weight, but it was steady.

"First… stop fighting the way he wants."

Rai'kanna smiled. "Now we're talking."

"Second… split the pressure."

Lyannis tilted her head. "How?"

"He controls everything when we're focused on a single point," I said. "If we create multiple real focal points… he won't be able to maintain the same level in all of them."

Liriel thought quickly. "That requires perfect coordination."

"Yes."

Elara added, "And constant reading."

"Yes."

Vespera crossed her arms. "And high risk."

"That too."

Scarlett looked at me. "And you?"

"I stay on him."

The silence hit hard.

Rai'kanna was the first to react. "Alone?"

"Not entirely," I replied. "But the main focus will be me."

Lyannis let out a light laugh. "That sounds like suicide."

"It's not," said Vespera. "It's strategy."

Liriel nodded. "If he focuses on Takumi… the field might weaken."

Elara completed, "And that creates openings for us."

Scarlett didn't look away. "Are you sure?"

"No."

I answered without hesitation.

"But it's the best path we have."

Silence returned.

But this time…

It was different.

It wasn't weight.

It was decision.

Rai'kanna spun her weapon over her shoulder. "Then let's make it work."

Lyannis smiled. "Now this is getting interesting."

Liriel took a deep breath. "We need to adjust everything."

Elara nodded. "Every detail."

Vespera concluded. "No room for error."

Scarlett remained by my side.

"Then we won't make any."

I looked at all of them.

And for the first time since the defeat…

The feeling changed.

There was still weight.

But now…

There was direction.

"Short rest," I said. "Then… we start the adjustments."

No one disagreed.

I stepped out of the tent for a moment.

The sky was already darkening. The battlefield in the distance was no longer visible, but the feeling was still there.

I closed my eyes for a moment.

Took a deep breath.

And accepted it.

The defeat.

Because it showed exactly what needed to be done.

I opened my eyes.

And only one thing was clear.

Next time…

It wouldn't be the same fight.

And the outcome…

Wouldn't be the same either.
