Chapter 718 - Differences Between Worlds

The next day began more quietly than the previous one. The initial curiosity and the lightness of the first outing were gone. What remained now was understanding. The city of dragons was no longer a novelty, but it still carried layers that needed to be understood. I woke up before the others again, but this time I didn't leave the room immediately. I stood still for a few seconds, simply organizing my thoughts.

The fight was close. There was no way to ignore that.

When I stepped out onto the balcony, the sky was already clear. A few dragons crossed the air in wide trajectories, without any apparent effort. It was something I had already seen, but it still caught my attention. Not because of the appearance, but because of what it represented.

"You're thinking too much."

Liriel's voice came from behind me.

"Maybe."

She approached and rested an arm on the railing.

"Or maybe you're thinking the right amount."

"Depends on the point of view."

"No," she said. "It depends on the moment."

I didn't answer. She was partly right.

A little while later, the others began to appear as well. The atmosphere was calmer, without the need to talk much.

"Are we going out again?" Elara asked.

"Yes," I replied. "But without rushing."

Lyannis nodded.

"Today is more about observation than movement."

Scarlett crossed her arms.

"Understanding what's still missing."

Vespera added,

"And comparing."

Rai'kanna looked at me.

"You want to see the difference more clearly."

"Yes."

It didn't take long for us to leave again. This time, there was no need for an immediate guide. We already knew the main routes.

Kaelira appeared shortly after we left.

"You're quick."

"Habit," I replied.

She was once again under the effect of Lyannis's magic, with her appearance altered.

"What do you want to see today?" she asked.

"More than yesterday," I answered.

She smiled slightly.

"Then follow me."

We walked through less crowded areas at first. Wider streets, with buildings that looked ancient yet still perfectly preserved.

"They don't build to replace," Elara commented.

"They build to last," Lyannis completed.

"That's obvious," Vespera said.

Scarlett lightly ran a hand along a stone wall.

"Strong material."

Rai'kanna observed in silence.

"That comes from their very nature."

Kaelira confirmed.

"Dragons don't think in the short term."

"That changes everything," I replied.

"Yes," she said. "It changes decisions, alliances… even conflicts."

We continued to an area where some dragons were training again, but this time it wasn't only physical combat. There was fire manipulation, mana control, and more refined techniques.

"This is more interesting," Liriel said.

"Now we're seeing something real."

Lyannis watched carefully.

"They don't use magic the same way we do."

"It's more natural," Vespera said.

"Less technique… more controlled instinct," Scarlett added.

Rai'kanna nodded.

"They're born with it."

Kaelira looked at me.

"You learn it. We… simply refine it."

"But that also limits you," I replied.

She raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?"

"You follow what you already have. We create what we don't."

The group fell silent for a moment.

Lyannis was the first to react.

"He has a point."

Vespera nodded.

"Adaptation versus nature."

Scarlett crossed her arms.

"Both have advantages."

Rai'kanna completed,

"And weaknesses."

Kaelira remained thoughtful for a few seconds.

"Interesting."

We continued walking.

We passed an area where some dragons in humanoid form were talking. The interaction was simple and direct, without excessive formality.

"They don't seem worried," Elara commented.

"They aren't," Kaelira replied. "Here… there are no constant threats."

"That explains a lot," Liriel said.

"It explains stability," Lyannis completed.

"And confidence," Vespera said.

Scarlett looked around.

"And enough power to maintain it."

Rai'kanna remained silent, but her expression said the same thing.

We continued to a higher part of the city. From there, it was possible to see a large portion of the buildings and the movement in the distance.

"Now this," Liriel said. "Makes it easier to understand."

"Yes," I replied.

Kaelira stood beside me.

"So… what do you see?"

I spent a few seconds observing before answering.

"A kingdom that doesn't need to prove anything."

She smiled faintly.

"That's a good way to put it."

"But I also see something else."

"What?"

"A kingdom that hasn't truly been tested."

She turned to look at me.

"You think so?"

"Yes."

Silence settled for a moment.

Lyannis crossed her arms.

"That makes sense."

Vespera agreed.

"Without constant external pressure… evolution slows down."

Scarlett nodded.

"And confidence can turn into complacency."

Rai'kanna looked at Kaelira.

"But that doesn't mean weakness."

"No," I replied. "It means stability."

Kaelira took a deep breath.

"You see more than it seems."

"It's necessary."

She remained silent for a few seconds.

"My father… isn't like that."

"I know."

"He never stopped."

"I know that too."

She nodded.

"Then you understand."

"Yes."

We stayed there a while longer, simply observing.

The wind was light, the sky clear, and the city continued moving at its own pace.

"It's a different world," Elara said.

"But it's still the same world," Lyannis replied.

"With different rules," Vespera added.

Scarlett crossed her arms.

"And different challenges."

Rai'kanna looked at me.

"And you… are right in the middle of all of it."

I didn't answer.

I didn't need to.

After some time, we started heading back down.

The return was quieter than the journey there. Everyone seemed to be absorbing what they had seen.

When we arrived back at the castle, the feeling was clear.

Now there were no more doubts about where we were.

Kaelira stopped before walking away.

"So… what do you think now?"

I looked at her.

"Now I understand enough."

"Enough for what?"

"To fight."

She held my gaze for a few seconds, then nodded.

"Good."

Elara took a deep breath.

"So that's it."

Liriel gave a slight smile.

"No more surprises."

"No more doubts," Vespera corrected.

Scarlett nodded.

"Now it's execution."

Rai'kanna completed,

"As always."

Kaelira slowly walked away.

"Then… until tomorrow."

"Until tomorrow."

We returned to the room.

The atmosphere felt heavier, but not in a negative way.

It was focus.

I sat down for a moment, resting my arms.

"So…" Liriel began.

"You already know what you're going to do."

"Yes."

Lyannis crossed her arms.

"And you're not going to change it."

"No."

Vespera nodded.

"Consistency."

Scarlett looked directly at me.

"Then win."

Rai'kanna added,

"As always."

I closed my eyes for a moment.

Everything was clear.

The world of dragons.

The differences.

The similarities.

And above all…

The level of the opponent.

When I opened my eyes again, there was only one certainty.

I was ready.

And this time…

There was no margin for error.
