Chapter 740 - The Growing Village

The days in the Cyclops Kingdom began to follow a different rhythm.

For the first time in a very long while, my mornings did not begin with battles or dangerous missions. Instead, I woke up to the sound of the wind passing through the fields around the hill and the distant noise of the village slowly waking up below the mansion.

It was strange.

But at the same time... comfortable.

That morning I woke up early once again.

The sky was still partially dark when I got out of bed. Beside me, Scarlet was still sleeping peacefully while Liriel remained partially covered by the blankets near the window.

I observed the silent room for a few seconds before slowly getting up.

As soon as I stepped into the hallway, I smelled bread being prepared from the floor below.

The mansion servants were already awake.

I calmly walked down the stairs while adjusting my shirt.

When I reached the main hall, I found Elara sitting near the table looking over some papers.

"You're awake early."

She raised her eyes toward me.

"I could say the same to you."

I approached the table.

"Are those the village reports?"

Elara nodded.

"The merchants started arriving faster than expected."

That immediately caught my attention.

I sat beside her while looking over the documents.

There really was a considerable increase in commercial activity.

Mainly related to the magical herbs produced on the lands.

The recovery of the crops was beginning to attract attention from other regions.

Elara pointed to several figures.

"These merchants came from the central region of the cyclopes."

Then she pointed to another report.

"And these are from human territory."

I slightly raised an eyebrow.

"The news has already reached there?"

"Faster than I expected."

I continued reviewing the reports for a few moments.

The lands were beginning to grow much faster than we had anticipated.

And that would inevitably increase our responsibility over the region.

Soon afterward, the others began to appear.

Scarlet still looked half asleep.

Rai'kanna arrived full of energy as always.

Liriel came down calmly while fixing her hair.

Lyannis carried another book in her hands.

Vespera remained silent while observing the reports on the table.

After breakfast, we decided to head down to the village.

As soon as we left the mansion, the wind swept across the fields carrying the scent of the crops.

The scenery already looked very different from when we had first arrived.

The lands that had once been dry and weakened were now green again.

Workers moved through the fields carrying harvest crates while some villagers organized small stalls near the central square.

Scarlet looked around.

"It's getting busy."

Rai'kanna smiled faintly.

"That's a good thing."

As we walked through the village, more villagers greeted us.

The respect was visibly increasing with each passing day.

But this time there was something beyond that.

Gratitude.

An elderly woman approached carrying a small basket of fruit.

"Lord Takumi."

She slightly lowered her head before continuing.

"The crops are finally growing again."

I looked at the basket before responding.

"It was everyone's effort."

The woman smiled.

"Even so... thank you."

Liriel gave a small smile beside her.

After the woman left, Scarlet crossed her arms.

"You're really starting to look like a noble."

I let out a small sigh.

"I'm still not used to it."

Elara chuckled softly.

"But you're already acting like one."

We continued walking through the village while observing the changes taking place.

Some houses were being renovated.

New storage facilities were being built near the fields.

Even the number of local guards seemed to have increased.

When we reached the main square, we found the minister speaking with two merchants.

As soon as he saw us, he quickly ended the conversation and approached.

"Lord Takumi."

I greeted him calmly.

"It looks like things are still improving."

The man smiled immediately.

"Faster than we imagined."

He pointed toward part of the village.

"The merchants have started investing in the region."

I looked around once more.

That certainly explained the increased activity.

The minister then began showing us some of the recent developments.

New storage systems were being built for the magical herbs.

Farmers were expanding certain sections of the fields.

Even small roads were being renovated to make transporting goods easier.

Elara carefully analyzed everything.

"This is going to increase financial flow considerably."

The minister nodded.

"Especially if the harvests continue improving."

Lyannis silently observed the surroundings.

"The mana of the region has almost completely stabilized."

Liriel agreed.

"The land has finally begun to recover."

Scarlet then pointed toward a more distant area of the village.

"Are those new guards?"

The minister confirmed.

"Yes. With the region growing, we need to strengthen security."

Scarlet immediately seemed interested.

"Who trained them?"

"Not properly yet."

She looked at me.

"Then I'll take care of that."

Rai'kanna started laughing.

"You just want to hit someone."

"Training is important."

Even Vespera seemed to quietly agree.

After talking a little longer, Scarlet really did begin observing the local guards while the minister continued showing me reports and financial records.

Elara constantly helped by pointing out possible problems and improvements.

She truly had a talent for administration.

Far more than I did.

As we walked through the village, I began to realize something important.

These lands were not simply improving.

They were beginning to prosper.

And that completely changed the weight of the responsibility.

Before, I simply wanted to stop the region from collapsing entirely.

Now...

Now I needed to think about growth.

The future.

Expansion.

When we reached the commercial district of the village, several new merchants began approaching us.

One appeared to be human.

Another was clearly a demi-human from the southern regions.

The minister began introducing some of them while we discussed possible future contracts.

Elara quickly took over part of the conversation.

She seemed much more comfortable handling negotiations than I was.

I watched her discuss prices and trade fees while the merchants listened attentively.

Scarlet appeared shortly afterward accompanied by several local guards.

"They're bad."

I looked at her.

"The guards?"

"They need training."

Rai'kanna laughed again.

"You sound disappointed."

"I am."

Even so, some of the guards seemed impressed simply to be receiving instructions from her.

Especially after recognizing who she was.

Lyannis continued observing the magical flow of the village while Liriel helped several farmers near the fields.

Vespera discreetly patrolled the surroundings without drawing attention.

Gradually, I realized something I had not noticed before.

Each of them was helping the region in her own way.

Scarlet strengthening the defenses.

Elara organizing commerce.

Liriel helping with the crops.

Lyannis studying the local mana.

Rai'kanna assisting with heavier labor.

Vespera ensuring security.

This was no longer just my responsibility.

It belonged to the entire group.

When the sun began climbing higher, we decided to visit a more distant area beyond the fields.

The minister wanted to show us a new area that could eventually be used for agricultural expansion.

We followed a small road surrounded by vegetation while the wind swept across the fields.

As we moved forward, I noticed that this part of the region still seemed less developed.

The crops were smaller.

The mana in the environment also felt more unstable.

Lyannis noticed immediately.

"There are still traces of contamination here."

Liriel closed her eyes for a few seconds, sensing the magical flow of the land.

"But it's much weaker than before."

The minister looked at me.

"If we can restore this area as well, production will practically double."

That was truly impressive.

I looked at the fields silently.

Not long ago, these lands had seemed doomed.

Now they had the potential to become one of the most important magical agricultural regions in the entire Cyclops Kingdom.

Scarlet crossed her arms while looking around.

"So the plan is expansion."

I slowly nodded.

"I think so."

Elara smiled faintly.

"You're already thinking like a true ruler."

I lightly shook my head.

It still felt strange hearing that.

But maybe she was right.

After spending most of the afternoon visiting various parts of the village, we finally returned to the mansion on the hill.

My body was tired.

But my mind kept thinking about everything we had seen that day.

As soon as I entered the mansion's main office, the financial reports were still sitting on the desk.

I slowly approached and looked at the figures again.

Profits increasing.

Trade activity growing.

Production stabilizing.

Everything pointed toward growth.

Scarlet appeared, leaning against the doorway.

"You really intend to turn this village into something great."

I looked through the window at the fields below the hill.

Maybe that was exactly what was happening.

At first, I only wanted to protect those lands.

Now I wanted to see them prosper.

I wanted to build something real.

Something that would remain even after the battles.

Even after the wars.

Red flames slowly appeared in my hand as I looked at the village in the distance.

Small.

Controlled.

Stable.

Scarlet noticed immediately.

"You're using that more and more naturally."

I slowly closed my hand, extinguishing the fire.

"Maybe I'm starting to get used to it."

She remained silent for a few seconds before speaking again.

"You've changed a lot."

I looked at her.

"We've all changed."

Scarlet smiled faintly.

"That's true."

I turned my gaze back to the village below the hill.

Lights were beginning to appear as night slowly approached.

The villagers still walked through the streets.

The workers gathered the final harvests of the day.

The region finally seemed alive.

And at that moment, I realized something important.

Maybe I wasn't just becoming stronger.

Maybe I was finally learning how to build a future instead of simply surviving the next battle.
