Chapter 1002 - Intimacy and the Demon King's Provocation

The night advanced over the kingdom's capital, covering the city's stone towers and aristocratic rooftops with a dark-blue mantle dotted with twinkling stars. Inside the mansion, absolute silence had replaced the cheerful bustle of dinner, transforming the spacious corridors into a sanctuary of peace and comfort. The lights of the main chandeliers had been extinguished, leaving only the soft golden glow of a few scented candles to guide my steps toward the private quarters at the end of the residential wing.

The master bedroom remained warm and perfectly organized, giving off a subtle scent of lavender and noble wood that immediately calmed the senses. The heavy velvet curtains blocked the faint moonlight, creating an intimate and secluded refuge, perfectly isolated from the turmoil of the outside world and the silent dangers that inhabited the depths of the tower.

My companions were gathered inside the spacious room, wearing comfortable resting clothes that enhanced the softness of their expressions, free from any armor or martial burden. The atmosphere inside overflowed with a deep and silent intimacy, built over thousands of kilometers marched side by side, countless strategies aligned under the tension of combat, and the genuine sharing of feelings that transcended the simple camaraderie of an elite squad.

I approached the large central bed, feeling the remaining physical fatigue from the days of marching evaporate before the human warmth and welcoming energy that filled the room.

"The day was long and demanded our absolute limit, but reaching this moment of truce in the mansion is the true reward for all our dedication," Liriel said in her harmonious voice, calmly sitting on the edge of the mattress while adjusting her loose hair.

"I completely agree," I nodded with a warm smile, sitting beside her and pulling Scarlet and the others closer into a collective embrace that involved affection, protection, and deep mutual respect. "Sharing every victory and every obstacle alongside you is what gives meaning to this entire journey."

The following hours passed in an atmosphere of absolute intimacy and sweetness. Amid whispered conversations, gentle caresses, and exchanges of passionate glances, the bond that united us was renewed with every gesture of genuine surrender and affection. In that space shielded against any external hostility, we were not merely heroes of a kingdom or legendary warriors of a relentless tower; we were real people finding in each other's arms the peace of mind necessary to erase the weight of the world. The love and mutual trust we cultivated served as the safest refuge anyone could wish for, dispelling any shadow of doubt regarding the strength of our union.

When the night was already well advanced and the rhythm of steady breathing filled the room, the girls fell deeply asleep, nestled in a well-deserved and absolutely complete rest.

I lay on my back against the soft pillows, keeping my eyes open for a few moments as I watched the shadowed ceiling of the room. While allowing a serene and mature reflection to organize my thoughts before surrendering to sleep, I considered the meaning of reaching the level of the thousandth second chapter of our story. The life of a vanguard leader is not made only of glories and conquered portals, but of constant vigilance over the well-being of those he loves. The rest we had earned at the mansion was sacred, but a strategist's mind never completely disconnects. We knew that the tower was merely the tip of a much larger cosmic iceberg, and that the entities governing the shadows of our world watched every step taken toward the upper floors with calculated interest.

Suddenly, the temperature inside the room dropped drastically and instantaneously. The faint light of the scented candles went out completely, and the air became dense, heavy, and permeated by a suffocating odor of sulfur and cold ashes.

I closed my eyes for a second, and when I opened them again, I realized that the landscape around me had transformed. The mansion walls had disappeared, replaced by a vast obsidian plain beneath a crimson and shattered sky. Before me, emerging from the shadows of titanic columns of dark stone, stood a colossal and imposing silhouette: the Demon King, wrapped in dark robes crowned with twisted horns, with eyes that sparkled like living embers amid the absolute darkness.

A deep, guttural, and icy laugh echoed through the depths of that dreamlike vision, making the spiritual ground tremble beneath my mental projection.

"Impressive, little human..." the demonic entity murmured, tilting its massive head in calculated mockery. "You crawled through the bowels of the tower, brought down my scaled guardian, and dared to anchor your insignificant presence in domains that do not belong to you. You and your combat dolls think you are writing a legend of eternal victory..."

I maintained a perfectly upright posture and an unshakable expression before the manifestation of the sovereign of darkness, feeling the energy of my mental armor consolidate around my consciousness.

"We are not merely writing a legend, we are dismantling your board piece by piece," I replied in a firm, serene, and cutting tone of voice that echoed across the empty horizon of the illusion. "Every floor we anchor and every creature we reduce to ashes is proof that your dominion over the tower has its days numbered. Save your threats for the moment when we meet face to face at the top."

The Demon King gave a subtle and disdainful smile through his sharp jaws, while his immense figure began dissolving into a thick mist of black smoke.

"Enjoy your false silence in the mansion, Takumi..." the entity's voice echoed before completely fading into the ether of the mind. "The true game of the tower has barely begun... and the upper floors await your blood to satisfy the true thirst for destruction."

A breath of hot wind crossed my spirit, and the illusion instantly collapsed.

I abruptly opened my eyes in the real world, once again finding the welcoming darkness of the mansion's room. The warmth of my companions' bodies beside me confirmed that it had all been nothing more than a dreamlike projection caused by the residual energies of the tower. I tilted my head, looked at the peaceful face of Liriel, who was sleeping serenely within my reach, and let a firm and confident smile escape. I closed my eyes again and surrendered myself to a deep sleep, knowing that no provocation from the shadows would be capable of stopping our march toward definitive victory.
