Chapter 22 - The Academy

Eve woke up in a haze the next morning as the soft, diluted light trickled through the semi-transparent curtains.

She tilted her head up, stretching her arms above her head as she yawned, letting the dim sunrays warm her eyes as it lit her bronze skin.

It took some time before she felt an aching between her legs and remembered the events that had transpired yesterday. She blushed like a tomato. Looking to her right, she saw Rain laying next to her, sound asleep.

He looked so innocent laying there, but as the memories of last night resurfaced–the memories of his ferocity in bed–she blushed an even redder shade. But instead of recoiling from embarrassment, she leaned back into bed and snuggled up to his chest.

It was cold, as usual with him.

Rain awoke to a beautiful noble lady laying on him, their legs wrapped around each other beneath the sheets.

He pulled her in, awaking her from her grogginess and giving her a peck on the forehead before hugging her tightly once again then getting dressed for the day.

It felt quite surreal to him, and a part of him wished he could stay in this paradise forever. But on the other side of his nature, he was still a devil; and a deeper part of his nature called unto him to fulfill both his natural desires as such and to find a way to the devil realm, the home which he was born out of.

"Is there a library here?" Rain asked Eve, who was still scantily dressed.

"Um… yes, but if you come to the academy with me… they have a much bigger library there with a lot more information."

"Will they let me in?"

"Yes, you will be my servant at the academy, and they will make accommodations for you. Every nobleman is allowed one to follow them around. You won't be able to attend any classes and only some facilities will be open to you. If you want to go, we need to leave today to get you registered."

"Then let's go," Rain said with a smile.

Outside of the Ventura estate, Rain and Eve were getting into a carriage to the capitol city, Cambria.

A man with olive skin stood on a balcony from the main building, overlooking their departure. It was Eve's brother, Daniel Di Ventura. He was the rightful heir to the Venturan Marquessate, but due to his lack of talent and his father's greater love for her second wife, he determined the household to fall into Evelynn's hands.

He would not take this lying down. It was supposed to be his, and he would do everything to get it back. As the older brother, the one who could stay within the borders of the city the Venturan name lorded over, he would take it all back.

*************

With haste, the caravan arrived at the capitol in merely three days.

Rain and Eve had shared a few more intimate moments in the cart as they traveled, making sure to sound-proof the walls before they melted into each other.

Magic was quite the convenience for these such occasions, one simple spell capable of clearing away all the scent and scandal of lovemaking.

Stepping out of the Caravan, Rain was witness to the magnificence of the capitol. If Gull was a bustling city of the common people, Cambria was the one for the rich. Every store, every house, every building was decorated with intricate runes and built of the most incredible slates and stones.

To the East, piercing the sky, was a white marble tower with massive enchanted golden rings and suspended magitech facilities that orbited the central tower.

To the West was the Cambrian royal family's abode, spanning acres upon acres, filled with innumerable facilities Rain had no idea about, lined with the same enchantments and intricate spellweaving as is expected of high royalty.

And right in the center was the Royal Cambrian Academy. It stood immense, not as grand as the royal estate, not as towering as the Mage Tower, but stalwart in their nobility and grandeur.

The capital Cambria was vast, and it took another two hours via a magitech aerial cableway system integrated with the city to actually reach the entrance.

Outside the marble gates was a knight clad in austere silver armor that covered everything from face to feet.

"ID" he called out to Eve as she approached Rain.

"Evenlynn Di Ventura," she said, passing a crystal tablet to the guard.

"And you?" The knight looked at Rain.

"He's with me. Could you help me register him as my servant?" Eve answered for him.

He then proceeded to answer a few more questions the knight asked: age, occupation, rank, etc.

It was over soon and he was given a bronze crystal tablet as opposed to the students' that were silver-ish.

The knight then signalled them to go through. As he stepped through the magic barrier at the gate, he felt a slight resistance followed by a resonance from his crystal tablet that let him seamlessly permeate through the barrier.

Upon entering, he realized that the outside view was nothing like the inside. The mana here was so thick, so plentiful with the elements of the world that he could see strands of free floating mana in the sky. Every breath felt imbibed with energy and life.

"Wow," Rain gasped.

Eve only nodded at him. It was normal for everyone upon first entering the academy.

"Stop gawking, let's go. There's plenty more you haven't seen."

They took another magic zipline to the dorm building. The dorms are quite spare, only filled with basic life amenities such as a shower, kitchen, toiletries, and a whole lot of empty space for the students to do with however they pleased.

Every facility a student could want to be a mage, warrior, researcher or engineer was provided for them elsewhere in the academy.

"Here. It's a map of the academy… try to figure it out to the best of your ability. It's a running joke that no first year ever gets it all right." Eve got up and left through the door, "I've got professors to meet, and I'll be back by noon. Don't get too lost."

Rain looked dazed. He stared down at the map filled with lines and symbols and squiggles and shapes with a key on the top right of this crystalline paper that was over 30 terms long.

"How in the hell…"

But one thing he could recognize from all of this, situated on the Eastern side of the academy was the library, mapped with big bold letters.

'Now I just have to get there…'
