Shen Linyi snapped her gaze toward him, feeling startled with her lips slightly parted. Gu Liansheng was leaning against the doorframe, a faint smile playing on his lips.
She let out a soft chuckle, trying to mask the sudden flutter in her chest. "I'd appreciate it if you helped me."
Gu Liansheng nodded once and stepped into the room. His eyes swept over the space, lingering on the old furniture and dust-laced corners.
A flicker of something, perhaps approval or nostalgia, or maybe both flashed through his eyes.
"What do you need me to do?" he asked, his tone calm but low enough to send a ripple through the quiet room.
Shen Linyi pointed toward a box placed on one of the higher shelves. "That one. I need help getting it down."
He walked closer until he was right beside her. Only then did Shen Linyi realize just how tall he really was. Standing so near, he seemed to fill the space entirel. His presence was steady, composed, and almost suffocating in its quiet authority.
