Chapter 49 - The Young Girl's Personal Sachet

"Oh?"

Luo Yu turned his head at the sound, seeing an old woman with a snake-head cane rushing over with a short-haired girl of sixteen or seventeen. The girl was shouting urgently.

Meng Yiran saw the handsome, young face of the man in front of her and her heart skipped a beat. The Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent's strength was comparable to a Soul Elder, and the youth in front of her was probably no match for it. She immediately changed her tone, worried.

"Don't stop it! It's dangerous! Get out of the way!"

Seeing the two behind her chasing after her, the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent seemed startled. It twisted its head and spewed out a cloud of colorful mist at Luo Yu.

"I didn't want to get involved."

Luo Yu frowned, his knees slightly bent. The grass and stones beneath his feet exploded as he used the force to leap up, instantly avoiding the colored mist and appearing above the serpent's body. He stomped down with a spiraling force.

With a "thump," Luo Yu landed on the serpent's body.

The old woman and the girl stared at Luo Yu in astonishment. They hadn't expected this seemingly young and refined man to be so decisive and violent in his attacks. Nor did they expect him to subdue a thousand-year-old Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent, which was comparable to a Soul Elder, in a single blow.

"Hiss!" The serpent hissed angrily, its crest suddenly turning fiery red, and its scales becoming incredibly slippery. It wriggled free from under Luo Yu's feet and shot away with the speed of an arrow.

The old woman and the girl, arriving just in time to help, saw Luo Yu partially mobilize his Soul Power. His right hand was instantly enveloped in golden flames. He grabbed the serpent's tail before it could escape, his arm muscles tensed, and with great force, he yanked the several-meter-long body back.

"Crack!"

The ground trembled. Luo Yu quickly moved past the serpent's body to its head and punched down, knocking the serpent unconscious.

"Grandma, is this guy a beast?" the girl asked, surprised, as she stood there.

The old woman rasped, "Not good! We have to go over there quickly. Don't let this kid take the Soul Ring."

Beside him lay the knocked-down Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent. Luo Yu carefully looked at the newcomers. The old woman's face was lined with wrinkles, yet it was as ruddy as a baby's. Her eyes flashed with shrewdness, and she gripped a snake-head cane nearly three meters long. Six Soul Rings pulsed around her.

Following the old woman was a beautiful girl. She wore a neat, tight-fitting outfit that accentuated her well-developed figure. Her deep brown eyes were fixed on Luo Yu with curiosity.

"Thank you!" the girl, Meng Yiran, said.

The old woman pulled her granddaughter to her side, warily eyeing Luo Yu. "Young man, we've been chasing this Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent for a long time. It belongs to us!"

"I'm not interested in what you have to say," Luo Yu said, the corners of his mouth turning down. He slowly approached the unconscious snake.

"I advise you to..." The old woman looked displeased, but before she could finish, Luo Yu, his right hand enveloped in golden flames, grabbed the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent and tossed it at the old woman's feet.

"I'm not interested in this thing either," Luo Yu said, shaking his head. He turned and walked away, not wanting to talk any more.

The old woman opened her mouth, feeling a little hoarse.

"Grandma! The young man just wanted to help us stop it!"

Meng Yiran stomped her foot and chided, feeling that the youth's beautiful eyes had shown a hint of disappointment and disdain when he left.

Luo Yu walked ahead. Given the time, place, and people, he quickly recognized the identities of the newcomers: none other than Snake-婆 Zhao Tianxiang and the young girl Meng Yiran.

He had just lent a hand, but he didn't expect the old woman to think he was trying to steal the Soul Ring. Was there any need to continue the conversation?

"Young man, wait for me!" the girl's voice came from behind. Meng Yiran's bright purple short hair fluttered in the wind as she ran.

"What is it?" Luo Yu stopped and asked.

Meng Yiran looked at the man's cold face, thinking it was because of what had happened earlier. Her soft face flushed red, and she apologized softly, "I'm sorry about earlier. My grandma misunderstood you. I apologize on her behalf."

"It's okay, it was just a small matter." Luo Yu hadn't expected the girl to run over and apologize instead of rushing to absorb the Soul Ring.

Meng Yiran took out a purple patterned sachet from her bosom. "There are a hundred Gold Soul Coins in here. Please, you must accept it."

Luo Yu was stunned. This girl was quite trustworthy.

"What's wrong, is it not enough?" Meng Yiran asked, puzzled.

"I'll accept your thanks, but I'll pass on the money," Luo Yu waved his hand.

Meng Yiran said gratefully, "You really helped us a lot."

"My grandmother is quite strong, but the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent is known for its speed. It moves through the grass like it's on flat ground. We really couldn't catch up in a short time, and if we ran around in the forest for too long, we might run into another ten-thousand-year Soul Beast."

Seeing the girl's sincere expression, Luo Yu didn't think much of it and reached out to accept the sachet.

Meng Yiran's face flushed slightly, as this sachet had previously been her personal belonging.

If it weren't for the other person's handsome looks and extraordinary strength, she definitely wouldn't have taken it out. At most, she would have just given him the money.

"Alright, I'm off." Luo Yu was about to leave.

Meng Yiran's eyes showed a hint of curiosity, and she said shyly, "What's your name? Which sect are you from?"

Luo Yu turned his head and said, "Miss, I'd also like to ask, are you checking my household registration?"

"Checking household registration?" Meng Yiran lowered her head in thought, not understanding what it meant.

After a few seconds, the girl seemed to understand, and suddenly raised her head. There were dense bushes everywhere, but there wasn't a trace of anyone.

"Damn it!" Meng Yiran stomped her foot, quite annoyed, and bit her silver teeth, resentfully saying, "This is the first time I've ever tried to strike up a conversation with someone!"

Zhao Tianxiang was dragging her strange snake over.

"Where is he?"

"He doesn't want to deal with me, he ran off!" Meng Yiran kicked at the soil beneath her, sounding dejected.

"What's this? You took a liking to the young man?" Zhao Tianxiang teased.

"Impossible! We just met! Do you think I'm that kind of person?" Meng Yiran glared playfully at her grandmother.

Zhao Tianxiang chuckled, "He seemed about your age, but his strength is probably far superior to most Soul Elders. He's likely a genius cultivated by the Upper Three Sects, good enough for my granddaughter."

"Grandma!" Meng Yiran was both embarrassed and annoyed.

"And he's quite the looker too. If I were younger, I might have fallen for him at first sight," Zhao Tianxiang said, leaning close to her granddaughter.

"I'm not talking to you anymore," Meng Yiran turned away, her face flushing. She hadn't been thinking much about it, but her grandmother's words had made her blush.

Zhao Tianxiang's expression turned serious, "Alright, Ranran, let's absorb this Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent that's nearly seventeen hundred years old. Your third Soul Ring will definitely not be inferior to anyone else's."

"Mm." Meng Yiran looked pleased, grateful to the young man who had helped her.

"Your grandfather went off to catch a Soul Beast for you. I wonder how he's doing. We'll find him once you're done absorbing!" the Snake-婆 said.

"Swish, swish!"

Luo Yu had journeyed far, and was now sitting sideways in the dense canopy of a tree, holding a delicately sewn Sachet.

"What's this smell?"

Luo Yu thought the fragrance on it was a bit strange.

It wasn't like perfume, nor was it like flowers. He poured his Gold Soul Coins into his Hundred Treasures Pouch and, with a look of disdain, tossed the Sachet under the tree.

The leaves trembled slightly, as if just a gentle breeze had passed through. Silently, threads of crystalline silk spread out around Luo Yu, forming a web.
