As the team pressed on, they faced two magical beast attacks along the way.
The first attack was minor...only two first-level beasts.....but the second caused serious concern.
A pack of Qingmu Wolves, over ten strong, appeared. Even seasoned mercenaries recognized the threat.
Luckily, Xiao Yan had joined their ranks.
With ease, he pulled out his massive Xuan Heavy Ruler and smashed the two strongest wolves into puddles.
The mercenaries gawked as he punched another wolf attempting to ambush Little Medic Immortal, crushing its skull and pulling out its magical core with his bare hands.
Despite the violent scene, Little Medic Immortal felt no discomfort.
She had grown up among mercenaries and had long been accustomed to such sights.
She even handed him a white silk scarf to wipe his hands.
Xiao Yan's display further elevated her impression of his strength.
With him present, the attack left no casualties and even yielded several magical cores.
Some mercenaries, however, sustained minor injuries.
"Everyone, we're near the herb-gathering area. Let's rest here."
Reaching a spot partially matching his memory, Xiao Yan smiled and suggested resting.
"Good idea," murmured the group.
"Xiao Yan is right. Let's take a break."
Tired from the journey and impressed by Xiao Yan's abilities, everyone agreed.
His display of strength had earned him unquestioned authority.
Yet, as the mercenaries rested, they realized Xiao Yan and Little Medic Immortal had vanished.
"Where did they go?" a mercenary asked curiously.
"Fool. A young man and woman like that....what do you think they're doing? Young love, mind your own business," an older mercenary teased.
"Truly the genius of the Calamity Empire. In just one day, he's captured Little Medic Immortal's attention?"
The group chuckled, though some young mercenaries looked uncomfortable, secretly admiring her themselves.
Meanwhile, Xiao Yan and Little Medic Immortal reached a cliff's edge.
"The treasure you mentioned… is it here?"
Her eyes wide with curiosity and nervousness, Little Medic Immortal scanned the cliffside.
Under Xiao Yan's guidance, she finally saw the vague outline of a cave below.
"This is it."
Nostalgia crossed Xiao Yan's eyes. He grabbed a sturdy vine and smiled. "Come on, I'll take you down."
"I have my own rope. I don't need your help!"
Blushing, Little Medic Immortal pulled out a rope. Her interest in the adventure showed...she had come prepared.
"Fine. But beware—there could be snakes, scorpions, or rats down there…" Xiao Yan shrugged casually.
Little Medic Immortal's expression darkened.
"If you misbehave, I'll poison you for sure!"
Temptation.....or some other reason...
.
overcame her hesitation. She hugged Xiao Yan's waist.
Feeling her delicate figure, Xiao Yan's smile softened. He leapt off the cliff with her in his arms.
Wind roared around them, pressing their clothes together.
Holding her with his left arm, Xiao Yan spun the rope with his right, slowing their descent to hover mid-air.
The wind calmed. Little Medic Immortal hugged him tightly, then whispered, "Go on, what are you waiting for?"
Smiling silently, Xiao Yan held her closer, enjoying her warmth and slightly hoarse voice.
"Don't rush… let me hold you a little longer."
The mountain wind pressed them together.
Little Medic Immortal felt dizzy but, seeing Xiao Yan's eyes, inexplicably stopped resisting.
His gaze held complex emotions...gentleness, nostalgia,
friendship… perhaps a trace of apology?
Her nose tingled with emotions reminiscent of last night's dreams.
"Did we know each other before?" she asked suddenly.
"Of course."
Xiao Yan's smile was bright and gentle.
"I told you, we were best friends in a past life. Do you believe it?"
"I don't."
Little Medic Immortal huffed, yet her head nudged against his shoulder. Dreamlike, surreal feelings overwhelmed her.
"Are we really just friends?"
Her nose tingled, an inexplicable ache forming.
Hehe.
Xiao Yan said nothing. Feeling her warmth....the warmth she never allowed herself in the past.....he inhaled her faint scent.
"But this time, we won't just be friends."
Her whispered words made her shiver; a tear rolled down her cheek.
"Could it be… reincarnation exists?"
Her heart was chaotic, like a wild beast tearing through her peace.
Xiao Yan held her quietly, doing nothing else, simply savoring her warmth.
After a while, his arms tiring, he smiled slightly. Kicking a rock, he swung both of them along the cliff.
