Chapter 88 - Chapter 88 — Later That Day

The streets of Maple Hollow glowed in the soft afternoon sun, golden light spilling across the cobblestones and the scattered autumn leaves. Hannah and Emma walked side by side, fingers brushing until they naturally intertwined. The town felt calm, quiet, and theirs in a way that made every little thing feel more vivid.

"Look at that sky," Emma said, tilting her head back. Sunlight streamed through the amber and crimson leaves, turning the streets into a living painting. "It feels like it was made for days like this."

Hannah smiled, squeezing her hand. "Perfect for wandering and enjoying all the little things… even if it's just our familiar streets."

They laughed at simple moments — a dog chasing a leaf, a child squealing after a balloon — and every shared glance and smile turned ordinary life into something quietly magical. Emma paused at the fountain in the little park, watching the water ripple in sunlight.

"You notice all the little things, don't you?" Hannah asked softly, brushing a strand of hair from Emma's face.

Emma grinned. "Only because you make me. You make everything feel alive."

They continued wandering, stopping at the corner bakery for a pastry, greeting neighbors, and sharing jokes only they understood. Every laugh, every glance, and every brush of fingers built layers of comfort, trust, and intimacy that had grown steadily over their mornings, afternoons, and evenings together.

By the time they returned to Hannah's apartment, the sky had softened into gentle lavender and gold. On the porch, hands still intertwined, they shared a quiet smile.

Hannah murmured, "Days like this… I never want them to end."

Emma pressed her hand to Hannah's. "Neither do I. Not ever."

Inside, the apartment welcomed them with warmth, carrying the calm, joy, and intimacy of the day into the

comfort of the evening.
