Chapter 8: Thanks Dobby

"Harry, do you remember that house-elf, Dobby?" asked Dudley.

"Yeah, I remember him," Harry replied.

"And do you remember the mess he caused with his magic?" Dudley continued.

Of course Harry remembered. That incident nearly got both of them expelled from Hogwarts, along with the threat of having their wands snapped, all because of a single house-elf.

But instead of anger, Dudley suddenly smiled. "Funny thing, really. Thanks to that little guy, we learned how important runes actually are."

"Runes? Are they really that useful?" Harry asked.

"Haha, that's why I didn't want you to stick with the Weasley boy," Dudley teased. "He's the the reason you didn't take runes and arithmancy in the first place, isn't he?"

"You...." Harry opened his mouth to protest, but the words never came. He couldn't deny it. Ron had been the reason he had dismissed useful subjects like runes and arithmancy.

Dudley gaze drifted for a moment, as if recalling something. He remembered a fanfiction he once read, where Neville Longbottom became Harry best friend instead of Ron. In that version, Neville guided Harry onto the right path, turning him sharper, stronger, and smarter than in canon. Of course, that Neville had been a transmigrator as well.

Friends really did play a part in shaping one future. A good friend helped you rise… while the wrong one could drag you down, even lead you to ruin.

"So, I'm planning to buy a pistol. Maybe even a rifle later," Dudley announced casually while buttering his toast.

Harry stared. "Can a pistol even do anything against a wizard?"

"Are you daft, Harry?" Dudley stared at him. "Think... what's faster shouting 'Stupefy,' waving a wand and aiming… or pulling a trigger?"

Harry hesitated. "…The gun?"

"Exactly," said Dudley. "Magic needs speech and motion. A gun needs a finger and aim. That's all. Not to mention the fact that bullets move at over a thousand meters per second, some even up to twenty-five hundred. Meanwhile, spells move at what, sixty kilometers an hour? That's why wizards easily dodge spells. Try dodging a bullet instead."

Harry felt his brain stretch in ways it never had before. He had never even considered it.

"Son… does that mean we could defend ourselves from that, you know, that dark wizard?" asked Vernon, voice tense.

"Yeah, Dad. You can also dodge their attacks. Plus, the Protego spell can't block bullets it only blocks magical curses," answered Dudley.

In Hogwarts Legacy game, Protego spell can block many spell, but when he throw the water barrel at poacher, it immediately shattered the Protego spell. Unless the object is transfigurated object by magic, which will destroy the object, physical object can't be blocked by Protego spell.

The same was applied here, for example even in the movie, the duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore. The shield that Dumbledore had used changed the shard of glass into dust not completely blocking it, the reason he did is because Protego can't block the shard, because it was a physical object. Even in his memory the protego spell really can't block the physical object.

Dudley picked up a fork and demonstrated a quick flick.

"This is the wand movement for Stupefy. The curse is red. If you know the wand movement and color, you know what's coming and how to counter it."

Harry mind was now fully blown open to a world of possibilities.

"For a non-wizard, the best weapon is a Glock 19," Dudley continued. "Try to get an M15, but if not, an AR-15 will do. Problem is, we're in the UK, not the US, where guns are easier to buy legally."

"But don't worry," Dudley grinned, "I've got a solution. First, though, I need Mum and Dad to come with me into my secret bunker."

"Can Muggles even enter your briefcase?" Harry asked.

"Of course."

"Briefcase?" Vernon and Petunia echoed together.

The day finally come...

"Welcome, Susan. Hello, Miss Amelia Bones. I've heard a lot about your accomplishments," Dudley greeted them with a big smile.

"Thank you, Mr. Dursley," smiled Amelia Bones.

"Hey, Dudley, long time no see," said Susan Bones.

"So, this is Harry Potter, my cousin. He'll tell you what really happened to him," said Dudley while introducing Harry to Amelia.

But before they could proceed, Vernon and Petunia decided to welcome their magical guests. Amelia and Susan were about to decline but accepted out of courtesy. Amelia decided to try the Muggle food.

"It's quite delicious," said Amelia. Even though they were British, there is a bit of a difference between Muggle and magical cuisine. Muggle food has evolved to another level, while wizard food is slowly developing and some still stuck in the past.

It was Susan's first time eating Muggle food, which was a burger, and they were also introduced to carbonated drinks and guys it was better than the Hogwarts could offer.

"That's the television and that's the telephone," Dudley introduced the Bones family to Muggle technology one by one. Of course, they were amazed at how Muggles had invented such technology.

Suddenly amidst the conversation, the sky grew dark, and the temperature dropped. Harry and Susan tensed up while Amelia's eyes widened.

"Impossible," said Amelia.

"What's impossible?" asked Petunia.

"Why did it suddenly get colder?" Vernon suddenly spoke up.

"Dementors," Harry mumbled.

"Boom!" The door was blown open by two ghostly mummified being.

"Expecto Patronum!" Harry cast the spell, followed by Dudley. But Dudley spell was different, he cast it with the intent of trapping the Dementors so they couldn't escape.

Amelia, who was surprised, also cast her Patronus.

The Dementors tried to flee, but Dudley Patronus trapped one of them. Dudley smiled, pleased with his carefully laid trap.

"Why are you here?" Amelia demanded of the captured Dementor.

"Dolores Umbridge, the Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, ordered us to kill Harry Potter and Dudley Dursley," the ghostly Dementor spoke after recognizing Amelia as an Auror.

Harry had thought Dementors could only attack, he never knew they could speak.

"What?" Amelia and Susan Bones were utterly shocked.

Suddenly, an owl arrived, carrying a letter.

Mr. Potter and Mr. Dursley,

We detected the use of magic in front of two Muggles.

Since you have been warned before,

We will send an Auror to snap your wand and you will be expelled from Hogwarts.

Mafalda Hopkirk.

Amelia and Susan Bones faces turned very serious. Suddenly, there was a popping sound outside Harry Potter house.
