Chapter 62 - Top Down File 1 兄 - Rhythm of The Night

Why are the two of us here?

Fame? Money?

No… it's not that.

We endure suffocating masks, run through the depths of night.

'Taste poison and countless wounds.

We turn our backs on virtue—all so that one day, we might earn our freedom.

And yet, in the end, we're still stuck.

Because once we step outside, what is there left for us to do?

And that world beyond—will it really give us another chance?

The roar of spinning rotors filled the sky as the sun slipped beyond the horizon.Massive steel wings cut through the wind, carving pale contrails across the darkening heavens.

Inside the cabin sat a pink-haired young man, a fang-shaped tattoo marking the corner of his left eye. He lowered his gaze to a magazine filled with local legends from the land of the rising sun.

He turned the page.

There stood Tsukuyomi, the moon god—balanced upon drifting clouds in the heart of night, flute pressed to his lips, gazing down upon a village where people danced beneath music that echoed across the sky.

Nearby, the storm god drew his bow in the middle of rice fields ablaze with orange flames, the setting sun burning behind him. And farther still appeared a mysterious goddess, watching the moon deity from afar.

Another page.

A small girl, her features almost cartoonish—a strange, magical figure with green-and-red hair named Yurei.

He read the caption beneath the illustration.

"The Little Ghost of Tokyo. Said to be an avatar of the full moon—one who brings laughter and joy to all. Though, at the end of the day… still just a ghost, huh~"

He gave a soft nod, then glanced at the window, its surface veiled in misty clouds.

"Hope the other butterfly isn't too far away," he murmured. "Getting tired of chasing them."

The man scribbled into his notebook.

Those who long to return to the past and those who yearn for the future—perhaps they're all doomed to sink into the present. The aircraft descended, shaking free of the clouds. Below, a city drenched in neon light came into view.

"Ah… finally," he sighed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside a private karaoke room, five businessmen sat drinking, laughing loudly as an illegal hologram flickered before them—data they had obtained through the black market.

"So," one of them said with a grin, swirling his glass, "how much are you willing to offer me for these files?"

Before anyone could answer, the door slid open.

Two champagne servers stepped inside—both wearing kitsune masks. One mask shimmered in teal blue, the other in champa yellow.

"Let's talk business later~" one of the businessmen laughed. "For now, let's enjoy ourselves! Hahaha!"

That was when everything shattered.

The two masked men moved at once.

Glass bottles smashed violently against faces—crack!—sending shards flying. One of them snatched the hologram data and stuffed it into his bag, then drew a knife from his ankle. Chaos erupted.

The blue-masked fox lunged forward, plunging his blade into the third businessman's knee before snapping an uppercut into his chin. The man flipped backward, crashing onto a glass table—

SMASH!

His hand flailed blindly… and landed squarely on the karaoke remote.

(A piano begins, slow—one note at a time)

Three years I waited here, right where you left me behind, lost in dreams.

Three years—painfully long, with only the stars watching over me.

Must've been fun, wasn't it, when I was nothing more than your toy.

I'd bet anything—you were lucky to have me by your side, hoo-hoo~

(A dubstep beat slowly fades in)

The yellow-masked fox slammed a knee into the fourth man's gut, grabbed his head, and smashed him straight through the window, glass exploding outward into the night.

"Help! Someone help me!" The last businessman crawled away on his knees— only to scream as a short blade stabbed into his hip.

"GAAAH~!~"

The yellow mask yanked him up by the hair, locking him tight just as black-clad bodyguards stormed in with pistols raised.

The blue fox hurled a chair—then dashed forward, slashing fingers, wrenching a gun free and smashing its butt into the guard's neck.

Bang! Bang!

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

One day, you'll finally see that everything you believed was a lie.

You're delusional—every single day.

One day, you'll finally see that everything you believed was a lie.

You're delusional—every single day~

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

The yellow fox buried his knife into a businessman's shoulder, dragging him forward as a human shield.

Ten bodyguards surrounded them, guns trained tight.

"Release the hostage," someone barked. "We won't fire."

Behind them, the blue fox spotted a service elevator.

"Y-Yes! Let me go!" the hostage screamed. "Put the guns down, you idiots! He'll slit my throat!"

The two masked men exchanged a glance—then nodded.

The blue fox pulled out a small metal cube and slid it toward the guards.

At the same time, the yellow fox ripped his blade free and kicked the hostage forward.

"Bomb!"

The guards dove for cover—

—but instead, the cube popped open, projecting a glowing message:

"BOOM~ hehe."

"Son of bitches!" The businessman slammed his fist into the floor. "GO AFTER 'EM!"

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

Three long years have passed. Still lying where you left me.

Three endless years, without a single ray of sunlight.

Must've been fun, wasn't it, using me however you pleased?

Make no mistake—you were lucky to have me

One day, you'll finally see—you were delusional all along.

Every single day.

YEAH—! One day, you'll see!

(Full dubstep drops)

The two foxes plunged down the service elevator, landing softly atop a pile of laundry bound for cleaning. They burst through an exit door—

Locked!

The blue fox looked up, spotted a ceiling vent, and climbed fast. They crawled through and dropped into the kitchen, landing squarely on a chef.

"Ah, what the-!"

Before he could react, the yellow fox knocked him out cold with the gun barrel.

"You didn't have to hit him that hard," the blue fox muttered. "Didn't want him screaming."

BANG! Security poured past the kitchen. "Where'd they go?! After them!"

The two thieves ducked behind counters. Once the footsteps faded, they sprinted in the opposite direction—straight toward the changing room. "Close, yet never saw us comin' heh!"

Cameras tracked them everywhere.

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

Every night I close my eyes; I never truly sleep.

Duty weighs heavy on my throat.

I did everything to please you—over and over again, didn't I?

Three years I waited. Was it worth it?

Three endless years, with nothing but falling rain.

Must've been fun, using me like a tool.

I'd bet anything—you were lucky to have me,

YEEEAAAH—

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

The cameras suddenly rotated, guiding them toward the exit.

"Much appreciated, Dango," the yellow fox chuckled, giving a thumbs-up to the camera.

But just before the parking garage, but Police lights blocked the way.

"We're late," the blue fox muttered—then spotted a janitor's room.

"This way!"

Moments later, one person exited calmly:a white-haired janitor, mask covering his face, pushing a cleaning cart.

"Seriously," he muttered under his breath,"what kind of day is this? Can't even go home on time."

"Shots fired on the third floor! Suspects wearing kitsune masks!"Two officers rushed past him.

Once outside, the gold-masked fox popped out of the cleaning cart, covered in dust.

"Idiot! ghhk Is this your idea of a plan? I'm freakin' filthy!"

"At least we got the file," the white-haired man replied. "Stop whining."

They jumped into a black car and sped off into the night.

"Hah! Didn't think this job would be easier than the last one," the gold fox laughed, reclining his seat.

"Just luck," the driver said. "Alright—let's get home and get some fuckin' sleep. woohoo~~"

The car disappeared into neon-lit Tokyo, wheels humming against the midnight streets.

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

One day, we'll finally see…

(See it… see it…)
