RAVEN POV:
Good lord, I was stupid—like Darwin Award level stupid—to have walked around without paying attention to my surroundings. If Lucian had been a vampire, I would've been dead. And no, I'm not saying Lucian isn't dangerous; I'm saying his hatred for me is the slow-burn, psychological torture kind of dangerous. The kind that makes you wish he'd just kill you already instead of keeping you alive just so he can ruin your next day.
He could've done it, too. That place was so quiet, so dark, it practically screamed "perfect murder spot." But no, he'd let me go. Which somehow felt worse. Like he wanted me to owe him something I never asked for.
By the time I got back to my room, my nerves were fried, my hands shaking a little. I eased the door open and found Alex already asleep, sprawled halfway off her bed like a very adorable corpse. Typical. She could sleep through a hurricane.
