Chapter 255: Finally a Master
For certain sensible reasons, before returning to the McGonagall villa, Sean made a trip to the joke shop to pick up some materials.
Gertie, the shop manager, was overjoyed and prepared to stuff half the shop's stock into Sean's trunk. However, she found that the trunk was already full. Her hand, clutching the materials, froze in mid-air, and she stood there like a cooling plaster statue.
"Felix Felicis?! Where did you buy this? I haven't seen a Potions Master selling this in ages."
"The Professor gave it to me," Sean said.
Gertie imagined Professor Snape sweeping in like a storm, shook her head rapidly, and banished the terrifying image from her mind.
"You mean... you are also quite skilled in Potions?"
Otherwise, she couldn't imagine why Professor Snape would do such a thing.
"I only know a little," Sean said before leaving the shop.
"Only a little..." Gertie repeated helplessly.
Is this what geniuses are like?
Sure enough, she didn't understand.
A farm not far from London.
Here, the sun was bright, and the wheat fields were a lush green. The only disturbance came from the occasional cries of animals from the pasture.
The little McGonagalls watched the dusty road eagerly, while their parents looked on, chatting happily.
As soon as Sean stepped off the carriage, he was engulfed in a bear hug from Marcus.
"Tell me quickly about your days at Hogwarts..." Marcus said enthusiastically.
Amidst the noise and excitement, night quietly fell.
By the calm lakeside, Sean raised his wand. A fire dragon, over two meters tall, spat out a fireball that evaporated the lake water into rising steam. Upon closer inspection, the dragon's scales bore the patterns of a Fire Salamander.
Sean frowned. His Advanced Transfiguration still suffered from the same issues: the casting time was too long, and the summoned dragon existed for too short a time—vanishing after just three seconds.
For his future plans, this was undoubtedly bad news.
The focus of the plot in the second year would be the Chamber of Secrets.
If the original trajectory didn't deviate, the Chamber would eventually be resolved by Harry.
But what if it did deviate?
Without the reflection of a mirror or water, looking directly into the Basilisk's eyes would result in death.
Sean had made many plans, but the one that tempted him most—and was also the most risky—was the Basilisk Biscuit.
If he could find a way to subdue the Basilisk, he could obtain an absolutely useful biscuit with miraculous effects. With the advantage of asymmetric information, anyone would suffer a huge loss against it.
As the ripples on the lake gradually faded, Sean heard the pleasant chime of the system panel:
[You have practiced Advanced Transfiguration to the Master standard. Proficiency +3000]
[A new domain has been entered.]
Sean focused his attention. This was the first time he had heard such a notification.
At this moment, the panel underwent a massive change. It absorbed all of Sean's attention and turned pitch black.
One second, two seconds, three seconds... A wand appeared in the darkness. It was jet black, but as light flowed over it, deep purple and dark red textures were faintly visible beneath the surface.
Sean felt a vague nervousness. He knew, of course, that this was the wand made of elder wood and phoenix feather in his hand.
Within the phantom image of the wand, many scenes flashed by—
The first time he Transfigured a match into a silver needle, the first time he Transfigured a Fire Salamander, the first time he imbued a Fire Crab with the magic of a Fire Salamander...
A line of heavy text, etched with mysterious patterns, appeared:
[Through this arduous journey, you have finally become a Master.]
[The door to Transfiguration Magic has opened. The hall forged in glory awaits the arrival of legends—]
[The path to Master level ascension is now open.]
[Since the climb has begun, Master is no longer the limit.]
[Panel upgraded.]
Sean stood frozen in place, scrolling down with excitement.
[Title: Transfiguration Master]
[Substantially increases unique perception in ALL Transfiguration fields.]
All?!
Sean was thrilled.
[Transfiguration Categories:
Material Transfiguration: Novice (0/300)
Magical Transfiguration: Novice (0/300)
Soul Transfiguration: Locked]
[Evaluation: A wizard newly entered into the Master realm of Transfiguration. Among Masters, your combat power is less than five.]
[Advancement: One Legendary Transfiguration spell, two Master-level Transfiguration spells required to unlock the Legendary title in the Transfiguration field.]
Legendary title...
Combat power less than five...
After the initial excitement, Sean silently closed the panel.
Master-level Transfiguration had brought about a huge change in the panel.
Sean guessed that Material Transfiguration was the combination of transfiguration between "living things" and "inanimate objects."
Magical Transfiguration was also easy to understand; the Transfiguration spell Sean had just cast, transforming fire into magic, fell into this category.
But Soul Transfiguration?
What did that mean?
Sean inexplicably felt that this might be the answer he had been seeking for a long time.
In distant Africa, at Uagadou, wizards were skilled at transforming themselves into cheetahs or elephants while retaining their own consciousness and will.
But Sean's Transfiguration Biscuits couldn't achieve this. Sean suspected that the so-called "Soul" might be the key.
If Sean could learn the secrets within, it would mean he could maintain his rationality even when transformed into a magical beast.
The moment this thought appeared, it occupied Sean's mind, igniting his desire for exploration.
Professor Terra was a wizard from Uagadou; perhaps the Professor could offer him some guidance in this area...
But for now, Sean needed to test the utility of the upgraded panel.
He waved his wand, and a fire dragon rose once more.
[You have practiced Magical Transfiguration to the Novice standard within the Master domain. Master-level Proficiency +1]
Sean saw his Magical Transfiguration proficiency increase by one point. At the same time, his Transfiguration seemed to undergo a metamorphosis; he could grasp the magical power required to cast Transfiguration spells much more clearly.
Guided by some profound intuition, the fire dragon lasted for a full five seconds.
And this was the result of casting Multi-Layered Transfiguration.
Now, no upper-year student should be his match.
Sean thought, most adult wizards would likely be the same.
As for Professor level... his magical power, limited by his not-so-strong physique, had always been Sean's biggest shortcoming.
With preparation and an unrestrained burst of power, Sean might be able to exchange a few moves with the professors.
Even if it was only a few moves, it was inspiring enough.
The stars were always bright in the countryside. The beech trees stood tall and low, composing a profound and tranquil night scene.
Sean tapped his wand on his head, and his figure melted into the darkness like a shadow.
He returned silently to the McGonagall villa.
The upgrade of the panel made his direction and progress on the path of Transfiguration much clearer.
During this summer holiday, he had taken a huge step forward in both the fields of Alchemy and Transfiguration.
According to this progress, in his second year, the Basilisk would likely not be his match. By then, he could properly research the Basilisk Biscuit.
And so, the night deepened.
