Before returning to New York, Emma never expected that Alex had helped her mother recover the money that had been swindled.
Overjoyed, she asked,
"How did you manage that?"
Alex gently pinched her cheek and replied,
"Just a little bit of money."
"I've already had it transferred directly into your account. What you do with it—whether you return it to your mother or not—is entirely up to you."
Emma couldn't hide her gratitude.
"Alex, you're too thoughtful."
Although she hadn't yet considered whether her mother might change after getting the money back, she knew she wouldn't take it. Still, she felt it would be better if her mother kept a little money in her hand.
"Thank you, Alex. You're really very considerate."
Alex furrowed his brows slightly.
"Emma, stop calling me 'considerate.' Otherwise, I'll think you're insulting me."
He leaned close to her ear, his tone suggestive:
"If I were truly 'considerate,' you'd probably be crying right now."
