By the ninth month of pregnancy, Emma was almost driven crazy by Alex's excessive anxiety. He decided to work from home so he could stay by her twenty-four-seven.
If she stayed in the bathroom for more than five minutes, there would inevitably be a worried knock on the door outside.
"Wife. Are you okay?"
Sitting on the toilet, she snapped irritably.
"Alex, it's only been five minutes."
The same went for showering.
Since it was summer, the sticky discomfort made it impossible for her not to shower every day. But as soon as she stayed in the bathroom for more than fifteen minutes, the sound of the doorknob being turned would come from outside again.
He would use the excuse of "helping" to come in and check on her, and indeed, he never crossed any boundaries. Still, she felt he was being excessive for not allowing her to lock the bathroom door.
