"Miss Rivers." Detective Grant's expression hardened. "Your best friend is missing. The last person to see her was you. Her phone was found in a room registered to you. And you have no alibi for the time of her disappearance. Do you understand how this looks?"
"I didn't do anything to Reese!" My voice rose. "She's my best friend. I would never hurt her."
"Then help us understand what happened. Because right now, all the evidence points to you being involved."
"I'm not involved! I don't know what happened to her!"
Carmen finally spoke, her voice thick with tears. "You left her. You abandoned her when she was trying to help you. And now she's gone."
"Carmen, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. But I didn't—"
"Enough," Detective Grant said. He closed the folder and stood up. "Miss Rivers, I'm going to need you to stay here for further questioning. You're currently our primary suspect in the disappearance of Reese Martinez."
"Suspect? You think I... you think I did something to her?"
