The next day, she met Eva again in the public garden. Eva's face was tense, and she didn't wait for greetings.
She spoke at once:"
_Céline, I searched through the old county newspaper archives, and I found something…"
She pulled out a black-and-white print of a newspaper headline from years ago:"
_Infant left near Saint Teresa Center after mysterious kidnapping. Police remain silent, witnesses report a black car storming the area at night."
Eva explained:"
_There was a woman named Mariam Fallon, a journalist who vanished suddenly after reporting on an illegal network that forced and threatened people into giving up their children for adoption. It's believed she was about to expose them, and then she disappeared. A few days after her disappearance, the baby appeared."
Céline put her hands over her mouth, feeling dizzy.
Could Lilia be the journalist's daughter?
Had she been a victim of trafficking?
Could Marcus have known something and kept it hidden all these years?
Then why would they want to get rid of her now?
Out of fear..of what? Or of whom?
Her head throbbed with thoughts. Barely holding herself together, she told her friend about the note.
Eva's tone grew more cautious:"
_Céline… someone doesn't want this story brought back to light. The message you found isn't an ordinary threat. We're getting close to something big."
Céline whispered:"
_Lilia is in danger."
To be continued...
