"Mum, I have to ask her first. You get excited at the tiniest of things," Eric said.
"You have chosen your Luna. Now, the rest is up to me. You can still do your romantic stuff…but you have chosen," Claudia said. Eric groaned loudly. With a long-suffering sigh, he started walking, his mother gliding silently behind him.
Outside, Benedict awaited. They moved together toward the back of the house, where a shed led to the basement. Benedict carefully opened the cage. He stepped inside, fluffing the little chair and inspecting the mattress on the floor as if preparing a sacred space.
"Benedict, it's fine," Eric said. He understood Benedict's careful devotion; the man had been a silent guardian all these years.
"I'll bring you your breakfast soon," Benedict said, bowing slightly.
