"I don't understand a thing you are saying."
Charles stopped pacing. The stove clicked softly as he turned it off, the blue flame disappearing with a quiet snap. He turned fully toward her. "I think I am your father."
"What?" She genuinely looked like she might faint.
"So talking about a man being with you, it… it's uncomfortable for me," Charles finished awkwardly, as if that clarified anything.
"What are you talking about?" she demanded, pushing to her feet. "This isn't funny."
"Sera, Luna Mother told me everything about what Benedict told you before he died," Charles continued.
Her eyes flashed. "Yeah. He didn't say you're my father. He said Vivienne…."
"No," Charles corrected carefully. "He believes you are Vivienne's daughter. And the theory is reasonable." He did not insult Benedict's logic. "But Sera…I have spoken to you more in these past months than I have truly spoken to Delilah since she was born."
"That's not evidence," she snapped.
