Just as she was about to pull away, his hand shot out and wrapped around her wrist.
His eyes opened, locking onto hers. "I missed you too."
It was different now.
When he had only been a voice on the other end of a phone, she had been brave. Distance had made her reckless. She could say I miss you. She could confess. But now he was here. Taking up space in her small sitting room.
"Get some sleep," she said softly.
It was safer than saying stay. Safer than saying don't leave me again.
His thumb shifted slightly against her wrist, absentminded.
"I promise, I'll be off before morning."
Sera nodded.
But her wrist was still trapped in his hand.
"Eric?"
"Hmmm." His eyes were already closing, lashes casting faint shadows against his cheek. Even exhausted, he was devastatingly handsome.
"Never mind," she whispered.
What had she planned to say? I'm pregnant? Don't go through with the mating? Choose me?
