Kelsey had no idea what he was thinking, but she knew it couldn't be anything good.
The moment she slid into the car, the air turned thick.
Norman was the first to break the silence. "Don't mind Mr. Kramer," he said, his voice careful. "He's just like that. Don't take it to heart."
"I'm not taking it to heart," Kelsey replied, her voice flat.
Her calm was like a wall, and it left Norman scrambling for what to say next.
After a heavy pause, he tried again. "I just thought… you'd mind him misunderstanding us. Especially now that you're… with Rhett."
He let the words hang there, heavy with meaning.
Kelsey's eyes darkened. She turned to stare out the window, saying nothing for a long moment. The city lights blurred past.
Finally, she spoke, her tone final. "Thank you for the ride."
If he hadn't insisted, she would never have given him this chance.
