Catherine's POV
We had barely walked past the edge of the property, heading toward the main gate to inquire about Kiera, when my phone vibrated in my hand. A notification popped up.
I looked at it and immediately I saw Kiera's name, I stopped dead in my tracks. My whole muscle releases as relief washed over me.
"Wait! It's Kiera!" I exclaimed, grabbing Gabriel's sleeve without thinking. I immediately started fumbling with the lock screen. "Speak of the devil, she finally texted me back."
Gabriel paused, looking at me with a clear curiosity, as he waited while I quickly opened the message.
Kiera's text was a string of rushed apologies and explanations. She apologized for not reaching out sooner, explaining that an urgent family emergency had come up. Because of it, she hadn't been in the neighborhood and had barely had her phone with her, completely missing my messages. She promised she would be back tonight and might stop by my house later today or tomorrow.
