Catherine's POV
"Let him look," I said, forcing my voice to remain steady. I didn't want her to notice the tremor in my voice. "Dante has nothing to hide. Whatever he said in the dining room was nothing but the truth. He knew Richard would dig. He's prepared for this."
"You don't understand how Richard thinks," Lisa whispered, her eyes darting toward the door as if the wood had ears. "It's not about him doubting Dante. He's obsessed. Richard thinks Dante is the missing piece for his next political move. He is trying to find ways to not lose the connection. His research is meant for finding ways to tie Dante to the Vaughn name legally. He's talking about 'securing' your future. I've never seen him this focused on a person who isn't a rival."
"Don't overthink, mom. Dante doesn't do anything he's not ready for. Whatever Richard wants to do won't work." I reached out and squeezed her hand. I needed her to stop shaking, or I was going to lose my own composure. "Go to bed please."
