A/N: Regarding why the protagonist didn't temporarily leave Rashomon and come back later to fight.
Initially, Ryuya was killing low-level Oni and could have left after accumulating a certain number, but he wanted to kill more. Later, the high-level, intelligent Oni recognized his threat and blocked his escape.
Also, I personally don't favor overly cautious/'turtle' strategies. The characters I write usually lay low and develop before encountering trouble, but when faced with challenges, they don't shy away. Hiding and slowly developing after difficulties arise... I generally don't write that way.
After all, Ryuya is a King. He is Britain's Sun-Crowned King, the king entrusted with everything by Vortigern and Uther, the king trusted by all of Britain's subjects. Retreating... wouldn't fit his character.
That's the general idea. Consider it a kind of stubbornness...
