Then the door opened.
"Are you both out of your goddamn minds?" Elena's voice cut through the room like glass. She stood at the doorway, eyes sharp enough to slice through both of us. "You're in my house, pointing guns at each other like children?"
Lucien's smirk faltered, but not by much.
"Just a friendly discussion, darling," he said, voice light.
Elena's glare moved to me. "If you're done measuring each others dicks, lunch is ready."
I holstered the gun without a word. My pulse was still pounding in my throat.
Lucien stood, straightening his shirt, brushing invisible dust from his sleeve. "You're lucky she walked in when she did," he muttered. "Next time, don't draw a gun on me, Alex. Because if you do, one of us won't walk away alive."
I stared at him for a moment, then nodded once. "Wouldn't have it any other way."
We walked out together, Elena waiting for us with that quiet disgust only a woman with too much patience could master.
