The moment he uttered those words, both Isaac and Rufus felt horrible, ominous premonitions twist inside their chests.
Rufus finally managed to scramble to his feet, his voice timid and scared, barely more than a whisper.
"W-What...what do you mean by that? What do you mean we won't exist?"
Luca turned his head slowly, and the smile that spread across his face was not a smile at all. It was a promise. A threat. A death sentence.
"You're both grown men, you should already know what I mean."
Isaac and Rufus exchanged a look of pure, unadulterated terror.
They had used those same words earlier, threatening Esme with her fate. And now the Hero was throwing them back in their faces.
They realised that the plan was over. The revenge was over. Everything was over!
Fear for their lives overpowered everything else. They snapped out of their daze and burst through the bedroom door, screaming in raw panic as they fled down the stairs.
"Run! Run! Get away from the demon!"
