"..."
Cale also hadn't anticipated that he would say this, but thought It was worth a shot.
[Do you know The Humanoid monsters?]
The first line written on the old-school parchment. Fiend nodded his head.
[I need you to observe one for me]
He nodded yet again.
[There is one with black armor, do you know him?]
He shook his head.
'Does he not like talking?'
He continued reading despite Cale's internal questioning, he kept hearing whispers and murmurs but ignored their denial-filled voices
[That's the one you need to observe]
[...]
This time, he hesitated more on this one, but eventually nodded his head in agreement
[Last thing. I will sometimes need you to ask the teachers something on my behalf, can you do that?]
This was basically asking him to be an errand boy, the only difference was that he might die. Not that Cale knew what would happen if Fiend died and didn't care for that manner
'It might sound cruel, but...so what? I can barely keep myself safe yet I'm supposed to try and protect a damned monster?'
Would you attempt to save a monster? Who would? Was there someone in this world so delusional that they would genuinely try and shield a wolf in a sheep's wooly cloth with their own bare body?
'Ridiculous'
It was a thought that could only be made when you are not in mortal danger, and Cale? He almost died a few hours ago, a scapegoat was obviously needed for when his life was in danger. Fiend perfectly fits that role.
[I can do it...] Fiend answered him In a quick but timid voice, prompting astonishment to buzz Cale's modern-average mindset you could find anywhere
'He'll do it? that quickly?'
The murmurs in his mind filled him and whispered softly that ulterior motives played foully
'I thought he'd tell me to wait and I would understand. But...an immediate answer..'
If Fiend himself showed hesitation Cale would attempt to 'appeal' to him by using their status as 'friends' as an edge
'I know there isn't supposed to be any common sense engraved into these things but, aren't they supposed to fear for their lives at the very least?'
Of course what Cale would be doing is manipulation in its purest form and neither was he happy about it since it could all fall apart if Fiend decided to just kill him for trying to manipulate and coerce him into doing something he did not want to do
"..."
Even Cale felt a tinge of guilt tugging at his fleshy strings but knew that he couldn't go back on his word, now that the things were said, were said
[Will you...]
Fiend however seemed to hold different ideas for priority
"..?"
[Be here again tomorrow?]
A moronic question that made Cale baffled
'Why wouldn't I be, I'm basically stuck here aren't I?'
Raising his head, slimy and grimy lips parted and formed a small smile. It felt creepy and disturbing as if Fiend only cared about that question.
Trrrr~
Trrrr~
The bells started ringing. 'well it took a while to find Fiend so I'm not too surprised'
Whenever Cale gets transported, his spot of where he ended up finding himself in was never consistent, he always teleported to different spots. One time he gets teleported to the checkered black and white third floor, other times he gets transported close to open windows and even laying down next to a gapingly open window, giving numerous heart attacks non-stop
Other times he would get teleported to the cartoony second floor that looked more like a playground
Only the first floor had the modern school type of layout, and for some reason they made the restrooms look like they were worth hundreds of millions of dollars
Clearly whoever designed Gardenia and built it had priorities too
Closing his eyes Cale waited until the boringly repeating darkness consumed everything
Poke
But he felt something pricking at his shoulder, It was a soft touch but unsettling
Eyes snapped open as if electrocuted, he looked to his right where the presumable source of the poking was
"..."
But he was only met with the scene of a classroom, the final class for today had already started.
'Was it my imagination?'
It was a simple poke after all, nothing too serious.
'Let's just get this class over with and go home'
***
Class ended and Cale was walking back to his house.
"?"
He spotted a bakery at a distance, his hands moved and dug into the pockets of his matte black cargo pants and found a couple of dollars that hadn't been given the chance to be spent on anything.
It was also then that he heard his stomach began growling like a starving animal.
'Well I was going to go buy bread anyway so this works out'
Feet reluctantly started pacing themselves to the Bakery, he noticed that there were a lot of people on the other side of the road, presumably College students waiting to catch a Bus
To put in perspective, the road was large enough to hold two gigantic trucks side by side, so there was also another bus stop and was also the one that Cale took
'They look quite... dead I guess?'
Their pale faces were etched with dark circles, even though they were a considerable distance from him, he could at least tell that much.
In the end like an ordinary young aspiring boy with a young and brilliant future, he ignored them and entered the bakery.
"..?"
It looked like a cafeteria with bakery as a side hustle the owner picked up
"Luxurious?"
It looked too fancy for a Bakery. It's not as if Cale never came to this bakery before.
"Did they renovate?"
It hadn't even been that long since the last time he visited this exact Bakery, but it looked nothing in comparison to what It looks now.
The floors were a smooth marble that were so clean they'd be mistaken for mirrors on a floor, the overall layout was bigger than before and it also had more decorations than before.
Tok
Tok
A Impatient employee tapped on the counter to make the daydreaming bastard at the entrance to take his order which was bound to be generic, quickly getting the memo Cale walked up to him and ordered two loaves of bread and an especially delicious looking sandwich that he felt he had to buy no matter what.
"That'll be....5.30"
"...."
'A sandwich costs more than three dollars?' He made such thoughts as Cale paid the once untouched money and kept staring at the receipt
He moved out of the way to let the other customer from behind take his order as he patiently waited for the employee to give back the change. A stark contrast to the employee who looks like he'd hit someone the moment they start annoying him
"Here"
Eventually he the change and looked to his right Instinctively.
A young boy not too different in age than him met his retinas, brown hair and green eyes with a slight pink hue accompanying him.
Cale wiped his eyes with his free hand and tried to look at it again
'Am I seeing things?'
"Well, does it matter?"
'If I just go on with my business I'll be fine' With those thoughts he turned his head and got his bread and expensive sandwich, feeling that It would be rude to keep staring any longer.
Another interesting fact about the boys was that his face was also pale with deep dark circles married to his skin.
'He doesn't look like a college student, in fact I think he is in high school just like me, although in a different school'
That school also had an interesting history
'Apparently there were some real stubborn and gangster like students there, but one day all those students quieted down and became timid due to some principal'
It was an interesting topic in the news outlet and media but like a balloon, the fame of the topic popped and died down
"Whatever, it's not like it matters"
Muttering, he walked outside of the bakery and started heading to his house with a smile tugging on his face, saliva trickling from his mouth full of acceptance
