Adrian had just stepped out of Carter Group's boardroom when his phone suddenly buzzed against his body.
Without slowing his pace, he slipped the phone from his pocket and glanced at the name flashing across the screen. The moment he saw it, his brows drew together.
'Johnson?'
His breath caught in his throat. Johnson rarely called him directly unless the matter was extremely urgent.
Although Johnson remained one of his most trusted aides and his loyal Beta, Adrian had long ago entrusted him with a far greater responsibility than simply standing at his side.
Instead of accompanying him everywhere as he once had, Johnson now remained with Stella at all times, protecting her from the shadows and faithfully carrying out every instruction she gave.
If Johnson was calling him now, it could only mean one of two things.
Either an emergency had occurred...
Or Stella was in danger.
At that very moment, Adrian silently prayed that it would not be the second possibility.
