Chapter 49: The Demon God (1)
He sighed, his shoulders hunching slightly as he closed his eyes, the immense, unimaginable weight of worlds settling upon him once more. This burden wasn't the abstract pressure of a past life; it was a cold, tangible certainty that coiled deep in his chest. Lucian opened his eyes, the deep black of his pupils reflecting a resolve colder than starlight.
"If fate wants to start another war… then fine," he murmured, the sound barely disturbing the quiet of the room. "This time, I'll finish it my way. No gods. No cults. No prophecies. Just me."
Outside, in the cramped, cheap space of his dorm room, the sky darkened. Thunder rumbled faintly in the distance—low, rolling, like the heavens themselves acknowledged the rebirth of their greatest enemy… and their only hope.
---
Lucian sat casually on the edge of his bed, dressed in simple, comfortable clothes. His distinctive ashen white hair framed a face currently set in a mask of intense anticipation. His deep black eyes were fixed on the shadowy figure of the Wraith King standing across from him.
The Wraith King, ever loyal and imposing, remained a silhouette despite the weak light filtering through the window. Lucian let the silence stretch for a moment before repeating his initial question, pushing past the weight of the earlier revelation.
"I see," Lucian said, running a hand through his short, gray hair. "Well, I still have many questions, but who is really the Demon God? Why did you tell me I am him?"
The Wraith King shifted slightly, a subtle movement that conveyed a deep sense of reverence and patience. He was ready to give his lord the complete truth, regardless of how overwhelming it might be.
{Well, my lord, the Demon God is a primordial being, as I said,} the Wraith King replied, his voice a dry whisper that seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once.
Lucian nodded impatiently. "Yeah, I already know that, but I want all his information—everything. I really don't know who he is, or who I am supposed to be."
{The Demon God is one of the Primordial Ones who created this universe, together with the Goddess of Creation and Supernovas,} the Wraith King began, starting the saga at the dawn of existence. {They are two sides of the same original coin. The duality of everything.}
He paused, allowing Lucian to absorb the gravity of being a co-creator of existence itself.
{The Demon God is the embodiment of End, Restoration, Destruction, and Void,} the Wraith King recited, detailing the raw, powerful forces his lord controlled. {He represents the inevitability of change, the destruction required for rebirth, and the empty canvas of the void from which all things eventually spring and to which all things return. He is the cycle itself.}
{In contrast, the Goddess of Creation and Supernovas is the embodiment of Life, Death, Divinity, and Creation.}
Lucian leaned forward, finding the contrast fascinating. The Goddess represented the tangible, the living, the structured. The Demon God represented the chaotic, the necessary end, and the potential beyond existence.
{After creating both this world and the whole universe, the two original beings parted ways. Instead of resting like the Goddess, who retreated to her celestial realm, my lord was impatient and quickly began his work on the universe. He hurried to create his own kind—the Demons.}
"Demons, huh," Lucian muttered, a familiar name. He recognized the next part of the lore. 'The Demons, they're the enemies of the 4 protagonists,' he thought, a familiar annoyance stirring in his gut.
{Indeed. The Demon God created the demons, which consisted of seven powerful generals, known as the Seven Demon Kings—or more commonly, the Seven Deadly Sins.}
The Wraith King ticked them off, his voice growing slightly melancholic as he spoke the first name.
{The First Demon King, The King of Wrath. Ohh, Demon God, let him rest his soul,} he intoned solemnly. {He was the spirit of righteous fury and unyielding strength. He protected all the others.}
{The Second Demon King, The Prideful One—the embodiment of self-regard and ambition. The most beautiful and the most dangerously self-assured of them all.}
{The Third Demon King, The Greed—the master of acquisition, desiring all knowledge and wealth in the cosmos.}
{The Fourth Demon Queen, The Embodiment of Lust—the irresistible force of desire and manipulation.}
{The Fifth Demon King, The Gluttonous One—the eternal devourer, symbolizing consumption and excess.}
{The Sixth Demon King, The Sloth—the master of inaction, strategy, and time. Paradoxically, the deepest thinker of the group.}
{And lastly, The Seventh Demon King, The Envious One—the subtle manipulator, who always desired what others possessed.}
{These Kings were my lord's Second Revelation—his grand generals, the embodiment of fundamental flaws and strengths. The first, of course, was him creating this world together with the Goddess.}
Lucian shook his head. "I see, so the Demon God is really an important person, huh. Hah, this would be an interesting lore if this was added to the game. But those lazy devs, being lazy, didn't add it and just scrapped his character. In the game, there's not even a backstory of him." A bitter laugh escaped him. "Seriously, those developers should be the Sixth Demon King—Gluttonous in their consumption of resources and Slothful in their execution."
{Yes, my lord. Even in this world, there is only small information about my lord. The only ones who know of his existence are the Second Revelation, the gods and evil gods, and lastly, me and you, my lord.}
"I see. Wait, you said the First Demon King is dead. What happened to him?" Lucian asked, his eyes narrowing at the memory of the title: The King of Wrath. Wrath was a necessary force, not a mere sin in his eyes.
{Well, we will get there, my lord. After my lord was done creating his Second Revelation, he proceeded to the third.}
{The Four Heavenly Kings.}
{The Four Heavenly Kings are the third and last revelation of the Demon God. They were created not to lead armies or embody concepts, but to be the pillars of his domain, the administrative and strategic heart of his empire. They consisted of me as the first Heavenly King.}
Lucian's deep black eyes widened slightly, the first genuine surprise of the conversation showing on his face. "Wait, you are the first Heavenly King?! How? As far as I know, there were only Demon Kings. Why Heavenly Kings exist—was it because it was also left out of the lore on the game?"
{Yes, my lord. I am the first and the only Heavenly King who stayed loyal to you. I was the King of the Wraiths, the master of shadows and reconnaissance,} the Wraith King confirmed with quiet pride.
The Wraith King's voice then lowered, almost to an inaudible, venomous hiss. {Unlike those remaining three, and including those remaining demon kings, those fucking ungrateful brats.}
Lucian rubbed his temples, a weary look crossing his face. "I see. Sigh. There's so many cut lores in the game, and I don't even know if it's still the same as the original game's timeline and my second life."
He stood up, walking toward the small window, staring out at the darkening sky.
"But who cares, to be honest? I couldn't care less about the plot of the story about this world anymore," Lucian declared, his voice firming up. "What my goals now are about the information of the Demon God, why I was back here, and who the fuck is that guy named The Man Cloaked in Black who called me his other half, and how the hell did he have Seoryeon's amulet that I gave as Seonin."
He turned back to the Wraith King, the curiosity in his eyes replaced by focused intent. "Continue telling me the information, Wraith King."
The Wraith King nodded, bowing his head slightly in acknowledgment of his lord's newly defined purpose.
{After all that foundational work, the Demon God focused on his personal affairs and proceeded with creating his final, personal realm,} the Wraith King continued.
{The Pandemonium.}
{The Demon God created it as a paradise for his creations—a place of absolute freedom, where the Demons and the Heavenly Kings could exist outside the rigid constraints imposed by the Goddess's laws. It was also a place where he could relax, for my lord is also a lazy person and couldn't care less about the affairs on the mortal realm and the Gods' realm the Goddess had created.}
This made Lucian smile—a tiny, cynical twist of the lips. The ultimate being of End and Destruction was lazy. It felt fitting.
{But something happened after 100,000 years of peace. The Gods, who were created by the Goddess, were starting a war among themselves—a Civil War, to be more precise.}
The Wraith King detailed the factions that tore the Gods' realm apart:
{These consisted of three factions:
The Loyalist: These were the Gods who stayed loyal to the Goddess and the God of Light—one of the Goddess's first creations, her son, and known as the Allfather. They believed in preserving the original hierarchy and divine law.
The Defiers: They were the faction of Gods who wanted to rule this world and make themselves the only gods who existed. They sought to erase all knowledge of the Goddess and the Demon God, wanting to be known as the creators themselves. Currently, they are known as the Evil Gods.
The Rebels: They were those gods who wanted to make this world a godless world, where there were no laws and freewill truly existed, just like the Demon God gave to his creations. They believed that by giving the mortals freewill, there would be no imbalance in this world anymore. But, seriously, they are just delusionals.}
Lucian, who valued freedom, couldn't help but ask, "Why? Why do you call them delusional?"
{It's because without law and order, this world will exist solely by nihilism and anarchy,} the Wraith King explained with surprising philosophical depth. {True, the Goddess's rule was too rigid, and the Allfather was, at times, like a tyrant. But peace doesn't exist if there's no law and order.}
{Even in Pandemonium, the Demon God gave laws and orders to his creations—not oppressive ones, but structures to prevent internal collapse. That's why there's no chaos in our realm. That's why I called them delusional. They sought to replicate the freedom of my lord's kingdom without understanding the underlying structure that made that freedom possible.}
{I'm really glad they are erased from existence, though I couldn't blame them entirely for their frustration, because the Allfather and the Goddess ruled with might and somehow like tyrant-like rulers, unlike the Demon God. Until that time—}
Lucian cut him off, a memory flash—a moment of catastrophic lore from the game. "The Judgement Day."
{Yes, my lord. The Judgement Day.}
The Wraith King's voice gained a profound, echoing resonance, painting a picture of cosmic catastrophe.
{The Civil War in the Gods' Realm escalated beyond control, tearing at the fabric of reality. Pandemonium was also affected by that chaos. The Demon God felt the imbalance of the system of this universe. His very nature—End and Restoration—demanded he intervene, for if the Goddess's creation fell, his would soon follow.}
{He gave them one chance. Together with the Seven Demon Kings and the Four Heavenly Kings, they marched to the Gods' Realm. Our lord, the Demon God, tried to stop the war by telling the three factions that if they kept going, this world would be destroyed. But neither the Loyalists, the Defiers, nor the Rebels listened. Each was consumed by their own pride and ambition.}
{The Demon God was angered by this ultimate disrespect. He was the force of destruction, and they were trying to hasten the end of everything he had built. And that's why he declared a war on the three factions.}
The scale of the war that followed was beyond mortal comprehension.
{After the Demon God declared the war, the whole world was engulfed in flames. The mortal realm, the gods' realm, and lastly, Pandemonium itself was drawn into the chaotic vortex. We were supposed to win at that time because of how powerful our forces were. The Demon Kings were unmatched, the Heavenly Kings were strategic geniuses, and my lord's power was absolute.}
{But then an unexpected turn of events happened. The great shield of our army, the First Demon King—The King of Wrath—was stabbed in the back and killed by none other than the Allfather, the son of the Goddess. The death of Wrath, the most loyal and physically strong of the Sins, broke the momentum of our advance and shattered the heart of our legion.}
A familiar wave of shock and disbelief—a ghost feeling from a life that wasn't his—passed over Lucian. He stared at the Wraith King, demanding clarity.
Lucian spoke, his voice tight. "But what?!"
{I know who was the one who killed the First Demon King, because I was there and saw who stabbed him,} the Wraith King stated, the conviction in his voice absolute. {The Allfather has no way of defeating him. He is weak, as weak as his siblings. The Allfather merely dealt the final, distracting blow.}
Lucian felt a sudden, cold dread, the reality of political maneuvering and petty jealousy rising to the surface, even among primordial generals. "Then who?"
The Wraith King's voice dropped to a horrifying, guttural rasp, thick with centuries of hatred and pain. He spat out the final revelation:
{It's none other than the Second Demon King, the Prideful One, who engineered his downfall. He executed the act with the assistance of the remaining Demon Kings—all five of them. And not only them, my lord, but also my own traitorous siblings—the three remaining Heavenly Kings—who held him in place for the fatal strike.}
The air in the room seemed to freeze. Lucian's mind struggled to process the gravity of the betrayal.
"What?!" Lucian gasped, the word ripped from his throat. The betrayal wasn't external; it was internal. The Generals of the End had turned on their own.
{The very foundation of Pandemonium—the 7 Sins, the 4 Pillars—was riddled with rot, jealousy, and ambition. They desired my lord's seat, his power, and his freedom, believing they deserved it more than the one who created them. That, my lord, is the truth of the Judgement Day. The war was lost not by the hand of a God, but by the poison of Pride and Envy that corrupted our own ranks.}
