Blanche's POV
I rushed up from the underground parking garage to the mall's upper levels, sweat beading on my skin as I tried to catch my breath.
Despite the bitter winter weather, my body felt clammy and overheated.
But as I approached the store I'd been browsing earlier, Zain's voice reached my ears.
I heard him questioning the sales staff, "Where's Mrs. Jacob?"
The employees looked at each other uncertainly.
Then a woman who appeared to be the manager stepped forward and responded, "Mr. Jacob, Mrs. Jacob went to the restroom."
Her answer came without any hesitation, her face completely composed.
Standing in the doorway, I caught every single word of her response.
Zain's brow furrowed, his voice cutting and clearly refusing to accept this. "Is that right?"
Before the clerk could respond, I walked forward myself, startled. "What are you doing here?"
I stared directly at Zain, obvious suspicion in my gaze. What's his deal today? I wondered.
