Blanche's POV
The next morning, I made my way downstairs to find Heidi had already whisked Carry off to preschool, just like every other day.
I'd planned it this way deliberately—no point in making my morning harder by running into Carry.
Zain was nowhere to be seen downstairs either. He must have already left for wherever he goes.
With the house empty, I prepared myself a simple breakfast of mixed nuts with milk and a boiled egg.
Just as I was about to clear my dishes, my phone buzzed.
A quick glance showed Amber's name on the screen.
I settled back into my chair and picked up. "Amber?"
Instead of my sister-in-law's voice, Camila's bright, sweet tone filled my ear: "Aunt Blanche, it's Camila!"
That adorable voice instantly warmed my heart, and I couldn't help but smile. "I recognized that voice right away, sweetheart. What's up?"
Camila sounded absolutely thrilled. "Aunt Blanche, my school's having a New Year's Day celebration! Can you and Mommy come watch me?"
