Blanche's POV
Zain's voice filtered through the phone, and I found myself gripping the device tighter without thinking.
My chest squeezed painfully.
But I quickly pretended I hadn't caught his earlier words, saying to Zain, "I'm ending this call."
Zain responded, "Alright, get home soon."
Through the stillness, Zain's voice carried with startling clarity.
Behind the wheel, Nathan's eyes sharpened as he caught Zain's words.
He shot me a look through the rearview mirror.
It was clear I'd mentioned Zain on purpose, trying to use his influence to keep Nathan in line.
What caught him off guard was how genuinely concerned Zain sounded about me.
Wasn't he supposed to be walking down the aisle with Joanna soon?
Nathan pondered this.
The realization made his frown deepen.
'Is Zain having second thoughts? Getting cold feet about the Joanna wedding?' Nathan found himself wondering.
