Chapter 83 - Chapter 83: Asking to Marry Her

Chapter 83: Asking to Marry Her

Green Lotus Core Flame.

Having just experienced the benefits of devouring the Illusory Gold Flame with the Flame Mantra, Yao Yan's desire for the Green Lotus Core Flame burned stronger than ever. He knew perfectly well how crucial heavenly flames were to the Flame Mantra—only flames imbued with immense natural energy could push the technique further.

As for beast flames... even those from eighth- or ninth-rank magical beasts likely weren't enough. The gap between them and heavenly flames was fundamental.

But refining and devouring a heavenly flame came with extremely high difficulty and risk—it was practically gambling with your life.

Even with Yao Yan's current powerful physique and multiple Dou Di bloodlines, he couldn't say with confidence that he could safely refine a heavenly flame. These naturally-born wonders of heaven and earth held such violent energy that even Dou Zun-level experts might not survive if one went wild inside their body.

In the original story, Xiao Yan dared to refine the Green Lotus Core Flame with only Dou Shi-level strength.

That, Yao Yan genuinely respected. If it were him, no way. Not even with medicinal pills and Yao Lao's assistance. Rationality told him—it was 100% suicide!

Success would depend entirely on luck—purely gambling on the compatibility with the Green Lotus Core Flame...

"I'll wait until I reach Dou Ling first."

Yao Yan kept himself grounded. He didn't let his desires cloud his mind. Refining a heavenly flame required strength, pills, luck—all of it. Unlike Xiao Yan, he didn't consider himself lucky, so he needed to prepare thoroughly.

If he weren't so worried about explaining things to Hun Xu Zi, he'd have called for his "cheap master" to help guard him during the process.

With Hun Xu Zi's strength, even if the refining failed, Yao Yan would survive and could try again.

Unfortunately, the matter of the Tuoshe Ancient Emperor's Jade hadn't been fully dealt with yet.

Thinking of that—

Yao Yan took out the Tuoshe Ancient Emperor's Jade fragment from his storage ring. He looked silently at the glowing piece of jade for a moment before retrieving a block of thousand-year jade marrow. Using Illusory Gold Flame, he melted the marrow into liquid and coated the jade in it. Once it solidified, it looked like an uncarved jade stone.

Thousand-year jade marrow could block soul perception, making it impossible to see the real jade inside.

Could it fool a soul at the Emperor Realm? Yao Yan wasn't sure. But adding more layers wouldn't hurt. He pulled out a piece of obsidian from his ring, melted it with Illusory Gold Flame, and applied it in the same way, encasing the jade entirely.

Obsidian was a rare mineral born of magma—black, glossy, extremely heat-resistant, and capable of blocking energy fluctuations. It was a primary material for crafting high-grade pill cauldrons.

Because of these traits, Yao Yan chose it as the final outer shell. He planned to place the disguised jade into the magma beneath Jia Nan Academy—specifically, the site of the Tuoshe Ancient Emperor's tomb. If even then the Soul Clan could find it, he'd accept it.

Man proposes, heaven disposes.

He had done all he could.

After sealing the "obsidian" properly, Yao Yan stored it away in his ring. He planned to visit Jia Nan Academy soon—but only after refining the Green Lotus Core Flame. Then he would head to the Black-Corner Region to begin further planning.

If all went smoothly, he could obtain Falling Heart Flame, Ocean Heart Flame, and the Bone-Chilling Flame.

"With four heavenly flames, the Flame Mantra should evolve to near-Heaven rank. That's enough…"

Yao Yan's eyes gleamed with fiery intent.

As night faded and dawn broke—

When Yao Yan stepped out of the alchemy room, the sky was already bright. A warm sun hung in the sky, and in his field of vision appeared Caidie's voluptuous and alluring figure.

She lay lazily on a soft couch, gently swaying her deep-blue tail, playfully teasing Ling'er with a grass essence bead in her hand, letting out bursts of melodious laughter. Ling'er drooped her large ears and tilted her head, letting out soft cries of "ying ying," while her tiny claws patted Caidie's soft chest in protest, as if trying to express her discomfort.

The scene was rather… captivating.

Big and soft… Yao Yan couldn't help but look a few more times, quietly evaluating. He felt a wave of heat rise from his lower abdomen and quickly took a deep breath, thinking: The aftereffects of the Flame Mantra's flame devouring are way too much—even a proper man like me can barely handle it!

He absolutely refused to admit it was his own problem—it had to be the Flame Mantra's fault.

After all, even Xiao Yan, with all his protagonist plot armor, couldn't handle the backlash. It was perfectly normal that he couldn't either!

"Young Master?!"

Caidie noticed movement from the alchemy room. Her ears twitched slightly, and her ocean-blue eyes immediately turned toward him. Upon seeing Yao Yan, her gaze brightened, and a smile bloomed on her face. "Did your pill refining go well?"

"Failed. The cauldron even exploded."

Yao Yan spread his hands with a helpless look.

It wasn't a lie. His cauldron really had exploded—just not from alchemy. The Bone-Chilling Flame had caused it. There was no need to explain the full truth to this silly girl.

Caidie hugged Ling'er and came to his side, her waist gently swaying. She lowered herself to eye level, tilting her head and looking at him with gentle concern. "Don't be discouraged, Young Master. Pill refining often fails. Just try again next time!"

She clenched her fist and made a cheering gesture toward him, her delicate, bare face full of sincerity.

"I don't need your comfort yet."

Yao Yan chuckled and reached out to tap her on the forehead, but she twisted her waist and dodged.

Caidie stuck out her tongue at him playfully. "I knew you were going to hit me~"

"Ying ying~"

Ling'er, however, couldn't take the pressure anymore. She waved her little paws and let out a protest, trying to return to her master's arms. Caidie was too fond of squishing her, and she could barely breathe.

Yao Yan reached out and scooped Ling'er up, rubbing her now slightly rounded belly with a smile. "You've been raised well—your tummy's gotten bigger."

Ling'er lazily pushed his hand away, clearly not enjoying the belly rub.

"Ungrateful little mutt—no, white-eyed fox!"

Caidie pouted jealously. She'd treated Ling'er so well lately, yet the little one still clung only to Yao Yan.

"A full meal always beats snacks. She knows the difference."

Yao Yan joked.

After ruffling Ling'er's head, he continued, "Get ready. We're heading back to the Tagor Desert later. Let's stop by the Snake-People's territory and visit your sister."

"Huh? Why go see my sister?"

Caidie blinked in surprise.

Yao Yan paused for a moment, then said seriously, "Your sister's really beautiful. I fell for her at first sight. I want to see if I can ask her to marry me."

"??"

Caidie's eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at him.
