Chapter 6: Three Dou Technique Manuals!
There was once a saying: If you awaken a supernatural ability, that's not frightening—because the world itself might be a supernatural one. But if you're the only one who awakens such power, that's the terrifying part.
This was a derivative of another quote: If Earth is the only civilization in the universe, then the entire universe must be a lie.
In other words, the emergence of something, while having elements of randomness, also inevitably contains a degree of necessity and universality.
If the human body in the Dou Qi Continent can channel Dou Qi to release Dou Techniques, then accordingly, using machinery to simulate the flow of Dou Qi through the meridians—thus releasing Dou Qi—should be theoretically feasible!
"It's said that Dou Zong experts are so terrifying they can walk through the void, appearing nigh-invincible. Few materials in the world can rival them."
Most people instinctively believe that "man conquers nature"—that humans are the ultimate lifeform, and nothing material can compare to them. But in the field of materials science, this idea is a paradox. Because the moment you physically exist in the universe, it proves that the elements making up the universe must be equal to or greater in energy level than you.
This world contains Dou Sheng—super beings who can change the heavens and earth with a mere gesture. That means the foundations of this world are made of materials even stronger than a Dou Sheng.
And if the world cannot contain a Dou Di, it suggests that a Dou Di's energy and mass surpass or equal the maximum threshold this world can handle.
Thus, from a materials science standpoint, the peak of biological life usually falls short of the material limits of its world. As long as one is determined, forging a Heaven Tier weapon capable of slaying a Dou Sheng is not impossible! (Later in the original story, Xiao Yan possesses a Dou Sheng puppet—living beings themselves are also materials.)
"But if materials and Dou Qi power levels correspond, and there are Nine-Tier materials and Nine-Tier magic cores, then forging should have immense potential. So why are Earth-Tier forgers so rare in this world?"
Jiang Lin couldn't make sense of it for now, so he shifted his focus back to developing his idea of "Dou Technique Weapons."
"I didn't have a good reason to ask Mr. Yao for Dou Techniques before. But now that I have Dou Qi, it's time to see if I can get one or two to try out."
Previously, Jiang Lin had deliberately hidden his rate of Dou Qi progress (though with no benchmark to compare, he just assumed he was mediocre). So, he didn't press Mr. Yao for any combat techniques. But now that he had genuine Dou Qi, Mr. Yao would likely offer him some on his own—even if Jiang Lin didn't ask.
And sure enough, the next morning after Jiang Lin had spent the night mulling over Dou Technique Weapons, Mr. Yao came to him personally in the inner courtyard of Wan Yao Pharmacy.
"Since you've already internalized Dou Qi, Lin'er, I have three Dou Techniques here. When you have free time, give them a try," Mr. Yao said, handing him three freshly transcribed manuals.
"High-rank techniques aren't always the best. The ones that suit you are the most effective. These may not be top-tier, but they fit your current needs and should help strengthen your combat ability before you reach the Battle Master level."
Leaving the manuals behind, Mr. Yao departed, leaving Jiang Lin alone in his room, eyes wide with curiosity as he looked at the three Dou Technique manuals in his hands.
The handwriting on the three books was very fresh—clearly copied just last night.
The three techniques were:
Mid-tier Yellow Rank Movement Technique - Burst Step: Harnesses the explosive nature of fire-attribute Dou Qi to create blasts beneath the feet for sudden bursts of speed.Mid-tier Yellow Rank Dou Technique - Flame Fist: Condenses fire-attribute Dou Qi into the arm; as the fist swings, flames form, boosting punching power.High-tier Yellow Rank Dou Technique - Vajra Drop: A defensive technique that rallies Dou Qi throughout the body to boost physical defense. At higher levels, it can be used to deliver heavy, forceful attacks.
These three techniques covered movement, offense, and defense. Along with the Forging Fire Art cultivation method Mr. Yao had given him earlier, this basically formed a complete foundational combat set.
Even better, all four techniques were highly compatible with Jiang Lin's Dou Qi attributes and personal fighting style!
Due to his forging practice, Jiang Lin was already halfway to being a body cultivator. The techniques Mr. Yao selected were perfectly tailored to maximize his fire-based power and physical strength.
"Burst Step lacks duration and flexibility… feels like Mr. Yao sees me as the type to miss one hit and then flee a thousand miles. A heavy-blade assassin?" Jiang Lin muttered.
Though he spoke that way, he was thrilled inside. The techniques weren't high-ranked, but they matched him perfectly.
"Flame Fist is from some mercenary group, right? And Vajra Drop—wasn't that the signature move of some mercenary captain? Did Mr. Yao run out last night and copy these from them?"
Jiang Lin imagined Mr. Yao, staying up late to visit mercenaries and transcribe three full manuals. The thought touched him deeply.
He also guessed that the high-tier Yellow Rank technique, Vajra Drop, was probably acquired by trading the Water-Patterned Golden Dagger. Otherwise, very few would offer that kind of technique for trade.
When it came to value: Combat Techniques < Cultivation Methods < Dou Qi Weapons.
Trading the dagger for Vajra Drop likely worked only because of Mr. Yao's reputation.
"Don't worry, Mr. Yao—I'll give you a big, big surprise!"
Clutching the three manuals, Jiang Lin made a firm promise in his heart.
Then he grabbed a quick bite in the kitchen and returned to his courtyard to begin training.
To avoid disturbing others while he forged, Mr. Yao had built him a private courtyard behind the pharmacy.
"Let's start with Burst Step. Looks like fun… Okay, feel the Dou Qi, then guide it into the meridian points in my feet…"
"Wait—this technique makes the Dou Qi blast through that many foot meridians?! Holy crap, if this backfires, will I even have feet left?!"
"…According to this circulation diagram, the energy should burst outward? Ugh, better slip a metal plate into my shoe and test it first."
BOOM!
A muffled bang resounded—and Jiang Lin hit the ground, clutching his numb foot and cursing:
"Damn it! So hot! I'm such a pig! Why the hell did I put a metal plate in there?!"
