So, naturally, we brought the chaos back with us. Because peace is apparently allergic to my presence.
We stayed the night in an inn at Valryn. Three rooms. Separate.
Very proper.
Very civilized.
And very suspiciously arranged so my room was sandwiched between Kael's and Zeref's.
For safety, they said.
Sure. Safety. From what, my own shadow?
Morning came too fast. I went downstairs half-awake, hair still rebelling, and immediately spotted the two of them already seated.
Kael leaned back like he owned the place.
Zeref actually waved at me. Like a normal, friendly, completely dangerous man.
I barely took two steps before Zeref stood up and pulled out a chair for me.
I stopped. Blinked. Slowly looked at him.
"You never did that when I was Leonhart," I said.
Zeref didn't even flinch. "Why would I pull a chair for someone bigger and more muscular than me?"
I laughed so hard I nearly missed the chair entirely. "Fair. Completely fair."
Kael snorted into his drink.
