Chapter 3 - finding out that I am in Dc Universe

"Wow, so many options… and ninety percent of them basically want me to kill myself just by looking at it" Ykri thought as she scrolled through the mission screen.

From what she'd figured out, whenever she selected a mission, an SCP would appear somewhere in the world completely at random of butt fuck nowhere and only then could she try to capture it. Those were the non-mandatory missions, while the others were mandatory, meaning she didn't even have the luxury of refusing.

Which begged the question: what the hell was she supposed to do if something like the Scarlet King, SCP-3812, or SCP-5000 and anything similar to their power level decided to show up right on her doorstep?

"Yeah, at that point, killing myself might actually be the best option," Ykri muttered, before quickly dismissing the thought. "Like hell they'd let me die that easily. They'd probably just do something to my body and soul that'd make the Geneva Conventions update their entire checklist."

She sighed, shaking her head to push away the dark thoughts swirling in her mind.

There was no going back to her old life now that much was certain. So, with a dry laugh, she whispered to herself, "In the face of hardship, I shall preserver"

"I've already taken two mandatory missions, so I don't have to worry about those for now… but that doesn't mean I can just sit around doing nothing, can I? And this place doesn't even have anything," she muttered to herself, glancing around the empty room once again before deciding to step outside.

The moment she opened the door, she was hit with the blinding light of the sun assaulted her red eyes, forcing her to squint and raise an arm to shield her eyes.

"Hissss…"

Her red eyes burned from the sudden brightness, and for a second, she genuinely considered closing the door again and pretending the outside world didn't exist.

But she couldn't just hide inside forever, she needed to find out more about the world she was in.

Was this world anything like the Earth she'd lived on? Were there humans here? Or was it filled with aliens? And where exactly was this place, anyway?

All of these factors had to be considered before she could even think about setting up the SCP Foundation here. If this world was still in some kind of ancient era, then maybe just maybe she could pass herself off as a goddess. After all, manipulating a bunch of ancient people would probably be easier than dealing with modern society.

But that tiny flicker of hope quickly shattered the moment she spotted the cars and the sleek, modern-looking buildings around her.

"...Fuck," she muttered internally, realizing this world was definitely not ancient. Everything from the cars to the glass towers looked painfully modern, maybe even a bit futuristic.

As she turned to glance behind her, hoping to at least retreat into the room she'd come from, her heart sank. The door was gone. Completely vanished.

"Double fuck," she whispered aloud, her expression frozen in disbelief" where the hell should I live now ?"

In her frustration, Ykri walked toward the railing of the building and stared out at the vast concrete jungle before her. The towering skyscrapers, the constant hum of traffic, and the endless flow of people moving through their ordinary lives—it all looked so much like the world she'd left behind.

Millions of people, going about their day without a care.Without fear of monsters, anomalies, or cosmic horrors.

At least… she hoped they didn't have to worry about that. Then again, maybe they just didn't know yet. For all she knew, this world could be crawling with supernatural activity hidden beneath its polished surface.

Rubbing her chin thoughtfully, Ykri muttered, "Alright, first things first—if I'm going to survive in modern society, I need the most essential tool of them all… a smartphone."

She glanced to her right, then to her left. The streets below looked empty enough.

"Welp," she said, taking a deep breath. "Here goes nothing."

And with that, she jumped.

The wind rushed against her skin, sending her white hair flying wildly behind her. Yet Ykri's face showed no hint of fear only a crazed excitement, the same kind she'd felt the first time she went skydiving.

The idea of falling to her death wasn't exactly comforting if she hit the ground, her body would surely turn into a fine red stain but that didn't stop her. After all, she wasn't just human anymore. She was half cat. Cats always landed on their feet... right?

As the ground drew closer and closer, the details sharpening in her vision, Ykri adjusted her posture midair, twisting her body with precision to line up the perfect landing.

"Hehehe…" she chuckled, her crimson eyes glinting with anticipation.

But before she could even touch the ground, something—or someone—snatched her mid-fall, moving faster than even her enhanced reflexes could register.

"Shiiit!" The word slipped out of Ykri's mouth purely out of reflex—being grabbed mid-fall would do that to anyone. But as her senses caught up, she quickly realized she was no longer plummeting. She was standing—on top of a completely different building.

And, more importantly, she wasn't alone.

Right in front of her stood a man wearing a red cape and a blue suit, the unmistakable S-shaped symbol shining proudly on his chest.

Ykri blinked once. Then twice.

There was no mistaking it.This was none other than Superman the actual, living, breathing superhero straight out of DC Comics and every TV show she'd ever binged.

"Ahh… this just made things way more complicated," Ykri muttered under her breath as Superman stopped hovering and landed gracefully in front of her.

"Are you alright?" he asked, voice calm and firm — the exact tone you'd expect from the Man of Steel himself, radiating that infuriatingly sincere concern for others.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Ykri replied quickly.

Superman didn't look convinced. "If you're not, it's okay to tell me," he said, his brows furrowing in that classic 'I care about everyone' expression. And, to be fair, he had every reason to doubt her — anyone would have questions if they'd just watched someone swan-dive off a skyscraper.

"I am fine," Ykri repeated, raising her hands defensively. "Look, it's not what you're thinking, alright?"

Superman tilted his head slightly, his sharp blue eyes scanning her from head to toe. "Not what I'm thinking?" he asked, folding his arms across his chest. "Because what I saw was someone jumping off a two-hundred-meter building."

Ykri forced a laugh that came out far more nervous than she wanted. "Yeah, about that… totally wasn't a suicide attempt or anything"

"Look, from the ears on top of your head—" Superman started.

"What ears? I don't have ears!" Ykri interrupted quickly, her voice an octave higher than usual.

He gave her a patient look—the kind adults give to children caught lying about stealing cookies. "Right… well, I think your situation just became a lot clearer to me," he said with that infuriatingly calm tone. "You must've just awakened your metahuman powers, right? You're probably feeling… disconnected, like you're not fully human anymore."

Ykri froze, blinking at him.

Oh, fuck, she thought. He thinks I'm one of those tragic types who hate their own powers or whatever…
