"...Who is it, Mark?"
"It is someone else, Sister. He looks quite young... but sister, b-be careful."
"The scent of blood!? Who are you!"
When Ron stepped into this room flooded with the pungent smell of antiseptic, he found the two siblings he had rescued last night.
Only, they were a bit mentally unstable, or...
Ron reached his hand toward the back of his neck, and sure enough, there was a bit of thick, viscous fluid lingering there.
"You! Who are you! If you do not speak, I will blast you!"
The blind girl was evidently terrified. She was casting a spell to attack and protect herself along with her younger brother.
Seeing this, Ron had no choice but to speak up to clarify.
"Wait, please hold on, Miss Emy, Master Mark."
Hearing her own name and her brother's, Emy abruptly paused for a beat. Her facial expression gradually relaxed, though a sense of reluctance still manifested within the young boy's eyes.
Seeing this, Ron added further.
"My name is Ron, you can call me Ron Irus. I come from Jinlus Village. I am sixteen years old this year. I am truly sorry for the trouble I have caused."
Even if this was a textbook, rigid style of response, it remained the most viable option for Ron to stick with.
"Ah, I helped you yesterday, remember? Last night, to be precise."
"Ah... It is you."
The girl gradually recalled the voice she had heard before. In reality, even if she did not remember it, it would not have mattered.
Ron noticed that her hands were trembling less, so he gently added a few more words.
"Do not worry about the scent of blood. My apologies for this inconvenience, but I am suffering from a severe injury on my back. I returned to this room because of the items I stored here. My medical tools, that is. As for the person you met earlier, he is my older brother, and he has gone to rest."
Ron smiled and slowly drew closer. He did not look directly at them, but he clearly perceived that the younger brother, Mark, was tugging at his sister Emy's shirt. He realized that Emy seemed to have been blind for quite a long time.
A question regarding the mystery behind her growing an eye and the optical explosion this morning surfaced in Ron's mind, but he did not dwell on it further.
"Ah, this is a gift I am giving to you two siblings, consider it a wish for your good health."
Ron handed the younger brother two bars of chocolate. The boy accepted them, his eyes lighting up with delight as he took them, but he was promptly stopped by his older sister.
"Mark, we cannot accept any more items from him. He has already been too kind by helping us, are you going to take his food now?"
"But..."
Emy immediately snatched the two chocolate bars from Mark and tried to hand them back to Ron—or rather, handed them out into the empty air, as she did not know exactly where Ron was standing.
"I am very sorry, it is quite saddening that my younger brother does not understand things yet. Thank you for your kindness, it has encouraged us a great deal."
She offered Ron a sincere smile, while using her other hand to cover the boy's mouth, appearing as though she was trying to restrain the greedy little fellow.
But Ron did not take back the chocolate bars. Instead, he voiced a different statement.
"Ah, there is no need, Miss. After all, everywhere is gradually becoming more chaotic by the second. Consequently, food and goods are scattered all over the place, so you do not need to return them, Miss Emy. However, you see, because the city—or rather, individual humans—are going mad, therefore..."
Ron hesitated for a long moment, allowing Emy to ponder for a bit.
The young girl recalled that last night, she and her brother were far too desperate and severely injured, which was why they went to the rooftop to make escaping easier. And through Mark's eyes, she finally realized the truth about the crazed people who had been attacking everyone.
"Yes, everything that is happening is indeed very chaotic. My brother and I are growing more anxious by the second, I honestly do not comprehend what is going on anymore."
The girl dazed out for a brief moment. Seeing this, Mark placed her hand into his chest to soothe her fears.
"Actually, I understand your anxiety. Regarding this matter, I am also slightly worried about other related issues. I am conducting psychological health checks on those who are sane, primarily to see if there are any differences or similarities that could lead to that state of going mad."
Ron spoke for a while, then he handed the young boy a few more sweet candies.
"Ah, you just keep the candies. Consider it my expression of gratitude for this test."
