Chapter 56: Absol! The Disaster Pokémon!
The moment Yuki spoke, Houndoom's entire body was instantly enveloped in blazing fire, consumed by the terrifying flames.
Without a shred of hesitation, it charged the oncoming Gyarados.
Seeing Yuki resort to such tactics, Kenji couldn't help but frown.
It was obvious. Yuki knew his Houndoom was no match for Gyarados. This was a suicide attack, using Flare Blitz to chip away as much of Gyarados's stamina as possible before fainting.
"Gyarados, stop! Use Protect!!"
Kenji had no intention of letting Yuki get his way.
The next second, the charging Gyarados abruptly halted, manifesting a pale green barrier in front of its body.
Houndoom, already swallowed by flames, crashed headlong into that barrier.

A towering inferno erupted across the entire battlefield!

As the light faded, a Pokémon appeared. Its body was pure white, and a sickle-like horn grew from the right side of its head.
It took two elegant steps forward, and a terrifying pressure exploded from its body, rushing toward Gyarados.
Gyarados, feeling challenged, was not about to be outdone. It let out a furious roar, unleashing its own aura without reservation, pushing back against its new opponent.
While the two Pokémon were locked in a silent battle of wills, Kenji stared at the new arrival in shock.

Following Yuki's command, Absol's form blurred. In the next instant, fourteen copies of Absol appeared in every corner of the arena.
"Gyarados! Use Dragon Rage and find it!"
Clearly, Gyarados was still seething from failing to win the initial clash of wills. Hearing the command, it immediately began gathering Dragon-type energy in its mouth.
With a furious roar, Gyarados unleashed a sweeping blast of Dragon Rage at the Absol copies.
"Move! Use Thunderbolt!"
The numerous Absols scattered in every direction to avoid the Dragon Rage.
Gyarados continued to sweep the field, blasting one illusion after another into nothingness.
But while Gyarados's attention was occupied, a different Absol's horn suddenly began to crackle with electricity.
Kenji's eyes widened. "The real one is on your right! Gyarados, dodge with Waterfall!!"
Just as Gyarados canceled its Dragon Rage and enveloped its body in water, Absol finished gathering its power.
"BOOM!!!—"
An instant before the Thunderbolt hit, Gyarados used the explosive thrust of Waterfall to launch itself from its position.
"Shock Wave!!"
The lightning on Absol's horn had not dissipated. It immediately unleashed another wave of electricity.
This time, the bolt shot directly toward the rapidly moving Gyarados.
Shock Wave had a tracking ability; Gyarados couldn't outrun it.
"Gyarados! Meet it with Waterfall! Close the distance and use Aqua Tail!"
If it couldn't dodge, then it wouldn't!
In truth, he could have used Protect to take the hit without injury.
But Protect only blocked one attack. If Absol caught Gyarados in the move's ending lag and unleashed another Thunderbolt, the trade-off wouldn't be worth it.

But the pain, rather than making it retreat, only further ignited the savage beast within.
Gyarados smashed through the Shock Wave and, with its speed undiminished, continued its charge straight toward Absol.
