Chapter 237 - Chapter 237: The High Priest

Chapter 237: The High Priest

A Master-rank Pseudo-Legendary.

Thinking back to Grandma Liu's Level 100 Gengar...

Kenji couldn't even begin to imagine how terrifying a Level 100 Tyranitar would be.

It would undoubtedly possess earth-shattering power, truly worthy of the title "Desert Sovereign."

Full of curiosity, Kenji tried to ask Qi Ping about the secrets of the Tyranitar Temple during the journey. He wanted to know if the rumors about the Level 100 Tyranitar residing within were true.

But Qi Ping kept his mouth shut tight. According to him, the Tyranitar Temple was sacred ground for the Qi Clan. The entity residing within wasn't just a Pokémon to them; it was a deity, a god exclusive to their clan.

This kind of worship of powerful Pokémon was common in early human society. But in modern times, with the rapid development of human civilization, such reverence had faded.

Only a few Pseudo-Legendaries and Legendaries still enjoyed such divine status in this era.

...

While Kenji's mind wandered, Qi Ping steered the Krookodile to the foot of the Tyranitar Temple.

The temple was massive, standing silently atop a towering platform built from compacted sand, demanding reverence from all who approached.

At the foot of the temple lay the settlement of the Qi Clan.

As a guardian family that had protected the Tyranitar line for countless generations, their population had grown significantly.

The settlement was large enough to be considered a small city.

"Who goes there!" At the gate, two Qi Clan guards shouted sternly from behind the sand dunes.

Qi Ping responded swiftly, pulling two items from his pocket.

One was the parchment Kenji had given him. The other was a small stone tablet with a distinct claw mark carved into it—though Kenji couldn't tell which Pokémon made it.

Recognizing a fellow clansman, the guards let them pass immediately.

Qi Ping swaggered into the city riding his Krookodile.

Inside the walls, the soft sand gave way to paved stone roads. Although the walls offered some protection, sand still blew through the streets.

To withstand the sandstorms, the buildings lining the streets had distinct desert architecture—thick walls and very small windows.

...

Passing through the desert-style buildings without stopping, Qi Ping headed straight for the base of the Tyranitar Temple.

At the foot of the temple stood a building resembling a church or cathedral.

According to Qi Ping, this "church" was where the Qi Clan worshiped their deity and where the younger generations learned about their faith.

It was also where major festivals and celebrations were held annually.

The person Kenji needed to meet was the High Priest of this church.

Qi Yanqun. His duties included spreading the faith and officiating ceremonies.

Most importantly, anyone wishing to enter the Tyranitar Temple needed the High Priest's permission.

Thus, Qi Yanqun held a very high status within the clan.

Arriving at the church, the patrols became noticeably denser. Guards were visible every few steps.

But with Kenji's parchment in hand, their path was unobstructed.

"Greetings, High Priest."

They entered the church. Kenji looked around. The walls were covered in murals from different eras.

Some were crude carvings on stone, devoid of color, depicting rough outlines of the Desert Sovereign, Tyranitar.

Others were detailed and painted, showing Tyranitar in battle, its green body standing out starkly against the yellow sand background.

The entire church was covered in murals depicting Tyranitar—sleeping on dunes, fighting, hunting.

Later murals showed Qi ancestors fighting alongside Tyranitar and worshiping it.

In the most prominent position of the church, a mural depicted Tyranitar shielding a human from attacking Pokémon.

Essentially, these murals chronicled the history of the Qi Clan in this desert: from worshiping Tyranitar, to revering it as a god, to fighting alongside it as partners.

At the front of the church stood a statue of Tyranitar on a high pedestal, accepting the offerings of generations.

Below the pedestal, a middle-aged man in long robes stood quietly, facing the statue as if in silent prayer.

Hearing footsteps, the man slowly turned around.

"High Priest," Qi Ping greeted first, bowing.

Kenji looked at the man. This plain-looking, middle-aged man was the highest authority in the Qi Clan today: Qi Yanqun.

"Greetings, High Priest."

Kenji followed suit, greeting him respectfully.

Qi Yanqun smiled and nodded at Qi Ping, then turned his gaze to Kenji. "Welcome, young friend Kenji, to the Qi Clan..."

Qi Yanqun was surprisingly warm toward Kenji. He expressed gratitude for Kenji's visit, then launched into a heap of praise.

One moment he was lauding Kenji's spectacular performance in the National League; the next, he was calling Kenji the most talented young trainer in all of Huaxia.

The excessive flattery left Kenji a bit bewildered. This High Priest was nothing like he imagined.

In Kenji's mind, a High Priest should be reserved, distant, and mysterious.

But Qi Yanqun acted like a friendly neighborhood uncle.

At Qi Yanqun's signal, Qi Ping took his leave first.

"Larvi~~~"

While Kenji and Qi Yanqun were chatting, a Larvitar suddenly poked its head out from somewhere.

It trotted out, hugged Qi Yanqun's leg with its small arms, and tilted its head to look at Kenji.

Its eyes were full of curiosity about the outsider.

[Larvitar]

An A-Rank Larvitar. Kenji scanned its stats and smiled at the curious little creature.

Seeing Kenji smile, the Larvitar didn't shy away. Instead, it let go of the priest's robe, walked up to Kenji, and waved its hand at him.

Kenji was surprised. This Larvitar was surprisingly outgoing. Not only was it unafraid of strangers, but it was also quite proactive.

"It seems the little one likes you quite a bit," Qi Yanqun said with a smile.
