Chapter 281 - Chapter 281: The Golden Egg

Chapter 281: The Golden Egg

This meant that Kenji had saved himself two Champion Duplicators!

A single Champion Duplicator cost 500,000 gold. Two would cost a whopping one million!!

A Gold-tier Hex Core providing one million gold's worth of value was incredibly strong. Kenji was very satisfied.

Over the next few days, under Ahmet's hospitality, Kenji and Namgung Xi enjoyed their time in the Western Regions.

Kenji wasn't in a rush. He had collected all eight badges. Once he left the Western Regions, it would be time to start intensive training for his team.

As for the training locations, Kenji didn't plan to keep all his Pokémon by his side.

For Beedrill and Arbok, Mt. Dreadmist was undoubtedly the best place. With Grandma Liu, a Poison-type master who had lived for over a century, guiding them, their strength would skyrocket in the shortest possible time.

Tyranitar was currently at the Tyranitar Temple. Kenji had kept in touch with High Priest Qi Yanqun. Tyranitar was being groomed as the successor by the King of Tyranitars himself, receiving daily tutelage and growing stronger rapidly.

Slaking didn't have high requirements for a training location.

Or rather, it had no requirements at all.

Slaking had its own unique way of leveling up and was too lazy for extra drills.

Of course, Kenji hadn't given up on training Slaking to suppress its Truant ability during battle. Although laziness was ingrained in its bloodline, just like humans can train to hold their breath longer, Slaking could train to overcome its instinct temporarily. But it would be a long process.

Ninetales wasn't obsessed with strength.

Bellossom, influenced by Ninetales, was becoming more interested in Contests. However, this didn't mean it slacked off in battle training. On the contrary, Bellossom was highly disciplined, maintaining a solid upper-mid tier position in the team.

As for Electivire, Gyarados, and Annihilape...

Their primary training ground would be the Metropolis Battle Tower.

The Battle Tower gathered the highest level trainers in Huaxia.

Electivire and Annihilape—especially Annihilape—were combat pragmatists. Training through battle suited them far better than monotonous drills.

...

With the training plan set, Kenji spent a few more days with Namgung Xi in the Western Regions before finally deciding to leave.

"What are your plans now?" Kenji asked.

"Where are you going?" Namgung Xi countered.

"Back to Metropolis."

"Then I'm going to Metropolis too."

"I haven't challenged the Metropolis Gym yet. Once I get that badge, I'll have exactly eight." Namgung Xi counted on her fingers, planning seriously.

"But counting your Druddigon, you only have five Pokémon. To participate in the Huaxia League Conference, you need a full team of six," Kenji pointed out.

Namgung Xi nodded. "I know! I have lots of friends back on Dragon Island. Grandpa will bring them over when the time comes."

"..."

Right. With her background, how could she only have a Dragonite and an Altaria? Kenji scolded himself for asking such a stupid question.

Two days later, Kenji and Namgung Xi set off for Metropolis, leaving behind the region Namgung Xi had grown fond of.

This time, Kenji rode Dragonite (Lulu), while Namgung Xi rode her Altaria. Even at Gym Leader level, these dragons flew much faster than commercial planes.

Upon arriving in Metropolis, Kenji accompanied Namgung Xi to challenge the Metropolis Gym.

...

"Where's Bai Bai?" Kenji asked Tyson Tang.

"She went traveling a while ago," Tyson said gloomily, his tone filled with resentment.

"By the way, where did you abduct this little girl from?" Tyson raised an eyebrow, gesturing at Namgung Xi.

"What do you mean 'abduct'? She's just a friend I met while traveling," Kenji said helplessly.

Tyson hummed, looking uninterested.

"What, worried about Bai Bai?" Kenji asked casually.

"Pfft. It's just that with her gone, there's no one to cover my shifts," Tyson scoffed in denial.

After that, Kenji made a trip to Mt. Dreadmist. Since Grandma Liu had lived alone for so long and likely preferred solitude, Kenji didn't bring Namgung Xi along.

This was the first time Kenji had been separated from Beedrill since becoming a trainer.

"Alright, it's just for a while. I'll come visit you every week," Kenji hugged his two Pokémon, comforting them.

He had considered setting up a transfer machine at Grandma Liu's, but Gengar's barrier interfered with the signal. Unless Gengar lifted the barrier or Grandma Liu moved out, it wasn't feasible.

So, Kenji settled for visiting weekly.

After dropping them off, the special training officially began.

Namgung Xi stayed in Metropolis for a few days before getting bored and leaving to continue her travels across Huaxia.

"See you later, Kenji! See you at the Huaxia League Conference!"

"See you." Kenji waved goodbye, watching her fly away on Dragonite.

...

Time flew by. From Monday to Friday, Kenji shuttled between the Battle Tower and the Metropolis Academy training grounds.

On weekends, he took his team to Mt. Dreadmist to visit Beedrill and Arbok and give everyone a break.

Continuous high-intensity training was tough; only anomalies like Gyarados could endure it daily without rest.

Xie Mu and Bai Bai frequently shared updates from their travels.

Namgung Xi, on the other hand, was clearly more focused on tourism, sending photos of scenic spots and food.

As the days passed, the Golden Egg was nearing its hatch time.

One day, Kenji skipped the Battle Tower. On his System interface, the Golden Egg sat quietly, cracks appearing on its shell.

Above it, a countdown timer ticked down.

00:05:00

Five minutes left.

Kenji waited impatiently. So far, Prismatic Hex Cores had never disappointed him. He hoped the Golden Egg would bring a pleasant surprise.

Time ticked by. Finally, the timer hit zero.

The Golden Egg shook violently.

Ding!! Golden Egg incubation complete! Open now?

"YES!!!" Kenji mentally shouted without hesitation.
