Chapter 392: The Master-Copy Ditto!
"Go ahead, Ditto. Show your future trainer what you're capable of."
Matsuma patted the little pink blob's head.
"Ying-ying!!!"
At the mention of showing off, a look of adorable pride washed over Ditto's
face. With a bouncy leap, it sprang from Matsuma's palm. Its soft, gelatinous
body began to stretch and warp with liquid fluidity.
Within a heartbeat, Ditto was gone. In its place stood a powerful, three-tailed
Tauros.
Kenji stared at the transformed bull. When his Data Eye locked onto the stats,
his pupils contracted to pinpoints.
[Ditto] (Transformed: Tauros) Gender: None Level: 47 (Elite) Type: Normal
Abilities: Sheer Force Potential: A
Kenji's mind went blank as he stared at the final row: Potential.
Its potential... actually increased?!
In the games, when a Ditto uses Transform, it copies everything except HP—stats,
moves, ability. But its base "quality" doesn't change.
In this world, Ditto followed a similar rule. A transformed Ditto could look
like a Dragonite, but it would still possess the "soul" and growth limitations
of a Ditto. Its potential was a hard cap that never moved.
But this pink anomaly had just shattered the fundamental law of its species.
The little guy didn't stop there. It began to cycle through a series of
transformations—Pokémon it had clearly encountered in Matsuma's labs. Every time
it shifted, the Potential displayed by Kenji's System shifted with it, ranging
from B to S-.
After nearly twenty consecutive shifts, Ditto finally began to look tired. It
reverted to its pink, blobby form, panting slightly. Despite the fatigue, it
puffed out its chest and gave Kenji a smug, "duang-duang" bounce, as if asking,
Am I the best or what?
"You see it now," Matsuma said. "Its capability for transformation is
unparalleled. As long as it has seen a Pokémon, it can replicate it perfectly.
But more importantly..."
Matsuma paused, relishing Kenji's shock.
"Unlike a common Ditto, this one copies the very potential of its target. Its
base potential is F-, but it reached Level 47 because we trained it while it was
transformed into A-Rank specimens. It essentially leeches the biological ceiling
of whatever it imitates."
Kenji was speechless, his jaw hanging open. This wasn't just a Pokémon; it was a
biological cheat code.
"Furthermore," Matsuma added, "it possesses a 'Power-Sync' trait. It can
temporarily override the level gap. If it copies your Beedrill, it can output a
strike with the raw power of the original, regardless of its own level. Of
course, the greater the level gap, the more catastrophic the stamina drain."
Kenji's heart raced. If it copies my Beedrill... it hits like a Level 98
Champion at Level 47?
That was terrifying. It was a one-use "Delete" button that could potentially
take down an Elite Four Ace.
Matsuma handed the ball to Kenji. "A gift worthy of the Champion, wouldn't you
say? It belongs to you now."
Kenji hesitated, his fingers hovering over the ball. "You're just... giving this
to me? Why?"
Matsuma shoved his hands into his pockets, his face a mask of weary relief. "I
am leaving. The R-Organization will cease to exist in this world tonight. I am
going into seclusion, and in my new life, a creature like this is of no use to
me. I would rather see it reach its peak in your hands than waste away in a
vault."
After a long silence, Kenji finally took the ball.
With the final gift delivered, Matsuma looked like a weight had been lifted from
his shoulders. He turned toward the dark exit.
"By the way," Matsuma called out over his shoulder, his tone light but carrying
a lethal edge. "Don't bother trying to hand me over to the League. I own this
Tower, but I have dozens of other 'investments' across Huaxia. If I'm not at my
destination within forty-eight hours, certain... 'packages' I've buried under
our major cities will detonate."
Matsuma offered a pleasant, chilling smile. "I'm sure you understand the stakes.
I'll be out of your hair in a week. After that, you can tell the League whatever
you want."
...
Kenji walked out of the Battle Tower. He looked slightly different than when he
entered—perched on his shoulder was a soft, pink, bouncy little blob.
The little guy was a troublemaker. The second it tasted fresh air, it refused to
go back into its ball, insisting on riding shotgun and seeing the city.
Ditto had clearly spent its entire life in a sterile lab. As they moved through
the bustling, high-tech streets of Metropolis, its tiny black eyes were wide
with wonder. It constantly shifted its shape to mimic the fire hydrants,
streetlamps, and even the passing pedestrians, "ying-ying-ing" with delight.
As for Matsuma, he vanished into the shadows of the city. Kenji didn't doubt his
threat. A man like that always had a fail-safe. He decided to honor the one-week
deadline.
Time flew. Before Kenji knew it, the New Year was approaching. He decided to
begin his Road to the Championship officially once the holidays were over.
In the meantime, he spent his days observing his new "pink shadow."
The moment he got home, Kenji had used his saved resources to pump Ditto to
3-Stars.
He tried to "cheat" the system by having Ditto transform into a high-potential
specimen during the fusion, but the System was smarter than that—it ruthlessly
rejected the transformation, basing the upgrade solely on the Ditto's F-Rank
core.
Thus, Ditto was hard-capped at 3-Stars.
For any other Pokémon, that would be a tragedy. But for Ditto, it didn't really
matter. Once it transformed, it inherited the stats of its target anyway.
A 1,000-stat Ditto is still only as strong as the Pokémon it copies.
[Ditto] (3-Star) Gender: None Level: 54 Type: Normal Base Stats Total: 408 (68
in all stats) Abilities: Imposter, Protean (Changes the Pokémon's type to the
type of the move it's about to use.) Moves: Transform Potential: D-
Compared to his other monsters, Ditto's stat panel was hilariously bare. A
single move. Mediocre base stats.
But upon hitting 2-Stars, it had rolled Protean as its secondary ability.
While the target's ability usually overwrote the Ditto's own upon
transformation, Protean provided a unique passive benefit: it drastically
increased the speed and fluidity of the transformation itself. In battle, Ditto
could now "shift" forms mid-exchange with zero lag, making its combat style
incredibly unpredictable.
Kenji watched the pink blob bounce around his living room. He had just added a
"Wild Card" to his deck—and he couldn't wait to see the look on the Elite Four's
faces when they had to fight themselves.
