Chapter 402: Bellossom! Explosion!
Both trainers threw their Poké Balls simultaneously, and their partners hit the
field.
Mason Chu stuck with his Magnezone.
Kenji brought Ninetales back out to refresh the Sunny Day.
"Magnezone!! Lock-On!!"
"Ninetales!! Baton Pass!!"
As before, Magnezone immediately initiated Lock-On, aiming to pin down
Ninetales's true body and prevent any further evasive trickery.
But Kenji never intended to keep the fox on the field. Her job was purely to set
the weather and prepare the stage for the next fighter.
"Show them what you're made of!! Bellossom!!!"
Ninetales retreated into its ball, and Kenji hurled his next partner into the
fray.
"Li..."
Bellossom performed a graceful twirl as she landed. Under the artificial suns,
the two red flowers on her head began to shimmer with a feverish intensity.
Typing-wise, Magnezone's Steel type granted it double resistance to Grass moves.
Furthermore, its greatest fear—Fire-type moves—was something Bellossom had very
limited access to. On paper, Magnezone held the advantage.
But Mason hadn't forgotten the Huaxia League Conference. He remembered the
terrifying pressure this "cute" flower could exert once the sun was out.

After months of intensive training, Bellossom had reached Level 85. She was just
a few steps away from the Champion tier.
"Magnezone! Flash Cannon!!"

Magnezone's surface erupted with a brilliant, silver-white metallic sheen. In
the next heartbeat, the light condensed into a focused beam that shrieked toward
Bellossom.
"Bellossom!! Solar Beam!!"
"Lili!!!! —"
Facing the incoming Steel-type blast, Bellossom met it head-on. Thanks to the
Manazane artifact and the sun, her charge time was non-existent.
Just as the Flash Cannon was fired, the flowers on her head detonated. A pillar
of white solar fire tore through the air, aimed straight at the UFO.
KRA-KOOM!!!! —
The two beams collided mid-air, creating a thunderous explosion.
Despite Magnezone's level advantage, the sheer raw output of a
sun-boosted, 4-Star Bellossom was superior. The Flash Cannon was slowly being
pushed back, the golden light of the sun-beam beginning to swallow the silver
energy.
"Magnezone!!! Eerie Impulse!!!"
"ZZZZT!!!! —"
Magnezone's magnets gathered a massive amount of electrical energy, releasing it
as a wave of distorting, jagged frequencies that filled the arena.
Eerie Impulse: An Electric-type move that bathes the target in disturbing waves,
sharply lowering their Special Attack.
While Bellossom's Healer ability protected her from most status conditions, it
couldn't stop a direct stat debuff.
"Bellossom!!! Use Dazzling Gleam!! Break through the frequency!!!"
"Li!!!! —"
The flowers on Bellossom's head flared with a prismatic radiance. The sheer
brilliance of the Fairy-type light was like a moon rising against a firefly; it
easily overpowered and "washed out" the Eerie Impulse before the waves could
reach her.
"Solar Beam!!!"
Before the light of the Dazzling Gleam had even faded, Bellossom fired another
railgun shot.
BOOM!
Magnezone countered with another Flash Cannon, but Bellossom didn't stop. Thanks
to her gear, she began to chain Solar Beams with nearly zero delay.
The machine-god was forced onto the defensive. It tried to kite the beams, but
Bellossom's tracking was too precise. Magnezone was clipped twice by the solar
pillars.
Even with double resistance, the sheer thermal weight of those beams dealt
massive damage. Magnezone was looking battered, its metallic hide scorched.
Mason's face was grim. He realized that if this continued, Magnezone would be
destroyed long before the sun faded. He needed to change the rules of the game.
He took a deep, steadying breath as another beam whistled past Magnezone's
flank.
"Magnezone!! Maximum output Electroweb!!!"
ZZZZZT...
The machine's magnets spun frantically. It injected a massive surge of energy
into the air, weaving a gigantic grid of high-voltage threads. Within seconds, a
super-sized Electroweb blanketed the arena.
The web didn't just target Bellossom; it effectively walled off the entire
battle-zone, trapping both Pokémon inside a cage of electricity.
Kenji looked puzzled. What's the play? He's restricting his own Pokémon's
movement as much as mine.
As the web stabilized, Bellossom fired another Solar Beam. This one hit
Magnezone dead center.
Even with a Light Screen he had managed to sneak in earlier, the machine was
nearly crippled by the hit.
"Magnezone!!! Use Protect!! Charge toward Bellossom!!"
"ZZZZT...!!"
A green barrier flared into existence in front of Magnezone. Using the web as a
rail and the shield as a plow, it dived straight at the small flower on the
ground.
Kenji's pupils shrank. The realization hit him in a cold rush.
The web wasn't to slow her down... it was to ensure she couldn't outrun a
point-blank detonation.
"BAD!! Bellossom!! Protect! Maximum defense!!!"
"Magnezone!! EXPLOSION!!!"
Inside the arena, Bellossom aborted her next attack immediately. She threw up
her own green shield, huddling beneath it as the shadow of the metallic god fell
over her.
Mason and Kenji issued their commands at the exact same moment.
Magnezone's single, unblinking eye showed zero emotion. It was a cold machine,
and even a command for self-destruction was just another directive to be
executed without hesitation.
Its entire body began to glow with a blinding, incandescent white light. Every
ounce of energy in its core was converted into pure, raw kinetic destruction.
KRA-KOOM!!!! —
The explosion was total. A flash of white light swallowed the entire arena,
reaching from the floor to the ceiling. It consumed Magnezone and Bellossom
alike, the sheer volume of force causing the stadium's reinforced walls to
tremble.
Mason Chu looked at the blast with a heavy heart. He hated using Explosion.
Trading a partner's life just to take out an opponent's Pokémon was a tactic
most masters loathed. But against Kenji, it was the only way to break the
momentum. In his eyes, this was a necessary sacrifice to protect the dignity of
the Elite Four.
