Chapter 19 - Ch 19: Diplomacy.

"So much for diplomacy."

Aegon muttered as ran for the nearest table.

To clear things up; he wasn't a coward— at least not totally— he just knew that when two bulls wanted to charge head on

The best option was always to avoid their line of sight.

Micheal's body heated and heated until his shirt was nothing more than loose strands.

He lunged for Quinn.

Right hook. Left hook. Body shot— no matter what he tried she always seemed to dodge his attacks.

Barely yet precisely— inches away from his flaming fist yet with a stoic expression that made it seem like she was always in control.

The other awakened pushed themselves into the corner— phones already videoing the altercation.

Quinn sidestepped his punch and sent Micheal sprawling onto the floor.

With just about the grace of a drunk monkey.

He hurriedly picked himself up, dusting off as he saw Quinn —

Expression cold, eyes steady and hand stretched out towards him with a gesture that was universal— come on.

His eyes drifted to the other awakened to catch wind of the murmurs.

"Wow. Number two's actually kicking Golden boy's ass."

"Cancel my previous bet. There's no way he's winning."

"I at least thought it was going to be a good fight, not a spanking."

"Guess number one's a nothing."

"NOTHING!"

Micheal snapped, for the first time— his hair was disheveled.

Fire balls erupted from his fingertips, lifting them before his eyes.

Illuminating his eyes and making everyone take a step back—

Except Quinn.

Aegon crouched down as he saw the disranged look in Micheal's eyes— his hypothesis just became a theory...

The MC was fucking crazy.

Micheal wasted no time hurling them at Quinn, fireball after fireball.

She doged them seemlessly— in turn sending them towards the awakened that clustered far behind her.

Not like they were in any serious danger, they were awakened, most could take a fireball or two but the weak ones— there was a problem.

But like Aegon expected — the strong stepped out and extinguished the flames in their own way.

Some water, some air, while others forces he couldn't even see.

Quinn saw this, realized that it was getting too far and raised her hands to calm Micheal down.

"Alright..." She spoke calmly, "you made your point, now calm down—"

"Calm down?" Micheal spoke like a man unhinged, "You don't tell me when to stop. I tell you when to die! This is my story not yours."

Somehow the temperature doubled what it already was, a haze surrounded the cafeteria and heated everything instantly.

The metal glowed red hot, which was practically everything considering they were in a mostly metal cafeteria.

Everything touched sizzled.

'Eli just couldn't let me sleep today.'

Aegon thought while watching on.

Flamestrikes flew in almost every direction— his aim for just Quinn had gone haywire.

Most began to shuffle out of the room, fireballs scroched everything.

One aimed directly for Quinn— it stopped before her.

Almost like the fireball had hit a wall.

Micheal, irate, his eyes searching round the room for something— anything that could help him win this and not look like a fool.

His eyes landed on the metal table welded into the ground— he reached for it and pulled with everything fibre of his being.

Normally, it'd be impossible, everything in the school was fortified against awakened, except Micheal had a metal affinity too.

"Ahhh."

He yelled as he finally pulled the table from the floor.

His eyes darted all over the room— all hands were steadily rising and lowering. All saying the same thing, "Don't do it."

But who were they to tell the MC what to do.

He hurled it at Quinn— who, to absolutely no one's surprise, had a field that ricocheted the table.

It bounced off Quinn's field and sent randomly flying in a room scattered with awakened.

Time slowed — all eyes on the projectile— red hot with enough speed to decapitate any unknowing awakened.

The table finally began too dip down— near the lunch line.

Where a figure stood— blue eyes wide and petrified, legs stiff like her fear wouldn't let her move.

Aegon sprinted towards the her with as much speed as adrenaline would give him.

Shuffling low like a spear— he moved without thinking.

~BOOM!~

The crashed into the lunch display, carving itself into the floor.

But not before Aegon pushed her out of the way.

He sprawled onto her just in the nick of time— his body hovered above hers.

She shut her eyes tightly, like she couldn't believe there was a way she'd be saved.

She finally opened her eyes to find herself on the floor and Aegon— arms on either side of her head, chest on hers— breath on hers.

Aegon remained on top her, chest heaving as he studied her features meticulously.

The sight freckles under her big doll-like blue eyes, her soft sky blue hair, the tremble of her lips— even though she was safe.

How she stared at him without saying a thing— almost like she wasn't sure if he was real.

The world away from her had unconsciously faded away— and somehow in the midst of all this carnage— he wanted her.

And desperately so.

"Noo!" Micheal's screamed shook him out of thought, "I'm the hero, know your places, all of you."

His finger darted towards the very few that still remained in the room.

"At you..." He hands were aimed back to Quinn who couldn't care less anymore, "I'm not done with you."

Flames shot forth from his palms, these ones burned more ferociously than before— like he poured everything into this.

Quinn's shield stood strong— at first— then the cracks started to show themselves.

Both on the shield and on Quinn's face— she couldn't hold it anymore.

Micheal somehow cranked up the heat— breaking Quinn's shield and sending her sprawling to the floor.

She rolled over to see Micheal— fingers like molten lava and slowly approaching her— she backpedaled away from him.

No one else tried to help— Micheal's occasionally glances at them told them one thing; come close and die.

Micheal's grin returned, more sadistic now and he stood over Quinn— a fireball converging on the fingertips.

"This is what true power looks like."

Micheal hissed before aiming at Quinn.

She shut her eyes and braced herself.

"..."

Nothing.

They had all unconsciously closed their eyes while waiting for the sound of the finishing blow.

But when they heard nothing, they opened their eyes.

It all happened in a second.

"..."

Micheal was on his knees, chest pounding heavily and his heat extinguished.

The temperature had returned to normal.

A familiar figure stood with his fingers on Micheal's temple—

A lean man with shoulder length disheveled raven-black hair, half-lidded eyes that glowed red. And he was pissed.

It was Mirage.

His crackly voice echoed throughout the cafeteria.

"Who started this?"
